I don't think scoring defense takes into account defensive and special teams scores for the other team. I could be wrong. But that may account for some of those scores.

Scoring defense just takes the points you give up in total. It is not a great stat but you would have to adjust it for every other team in the nation too if you want to go down that road.

USF has let up 5 TDs this year on Offense (Pick Sixes and Fumble Returns). That is 30 total points (no EP), so instead they let up 24.00 PPG which would be 59th in the country (if every team stayed the same). The issue is now is you have to remove every defensive/special teams TD from everyone to do this stat.

It is true that the stats includes are ST and Defensive Stats but still their is a major difference between 23rd in total defense and 59th in scoring defense.

I was just saying that the gap in scoring vs total defense for USF probably has something to do with their ****** offense giving the defense short fields and giving up points off of turnovers.

I for one never had a problem with this series. We got more home games, and got to play a "road" game against a BCS conference opponent just a few hours from school which travel-wise is a lot easier on the team, and we've done better recruiting in the Tampa Bay area in recent years than any period I can remember. We went 4-1 against them (will be 5-1 in 5 days), with the only loss being in OT and I attribute that a lot less to it being USF then the final wheels coming off the Shannon train-wreck. We got great exposure on the West Coast. Just look at AG's comments about recruiting last week... he said that this game will afford the staff the opportunity to hit the Florida West Coast hard Thursday and Friday.

I follow and that is fair, just hard to readjust every team in the nation. So while they are 59th in the adjusted stats, other teams gave up the same type of TDs, probably not as much.

So while your defense is not really letting up those points (i.e. scoring defense should be lower) at the same time the opposing offense doesn't have the opportunity to drive down the field (they don't get offensive yards for returning INTS/Fumbles etc) and the total defense remains low (i.e. less drives since the defense is not he field during those TDs).

USF will always hold a special place in my heart for being just good enough to beat us one time, and allowing the U out from under the Shannon regime. That said, fvck them. I need to see some ruthlessness, a big blowout to end the series would be outstanding. 63-3 or something like that.

i remember thinking after that loss to USF: "If this ensures Shannon's gone then it is worth it." No doubt, it was.
