Can you give your perspective on why it would take that play if we’ve all seen similar issues in coverage before?
It’s like the Thornton stuff. Some are now surprised that he struggles in man coverage and turning to cover inside WRs and TEs? It’s plainly in his tape from BC.
Can we get a little ahead of this stuff or do we need to see our players struggle at their weakness before we make an aggressive move in the other direction.
Kind of like last year’s tendencies. Dawson ran into a pile 13/13 times in short yardage against SMU, we lost the game, and THEN we said ‘**** it, let it rip’ or whatever (and started layering wrinkles and breaking tendencies all over by formation and playcall).
We’re 3-0. We have what I believe to be the perfect type of college QB. Can we avoid inevitable things before they happen this year? And, no, I don’t expect us to go undefeated or anything. Just to avoid the obvious.
On both incompletiins to Lofton we had the underneath wide open. On the first one Moore was open on the slant and on the second Toney was open on the hook. Both would have been first downs.
At a certain point you got no choice but to give them burn. We're in this spot because they didn't get enough burn previously. You can't neglect your depth until you need them because by that point it's too late. We gotta handle business in games like wake,like this weekend so we can give the rotation some burn. Only way you can really get the development you need is exactly that. For me I'd make **** sure keep mo and smith off the field together. Moe I have trust in but I'm not dillusional about his weaknesses either. I suppose to a lesser extent I feel the same way about chase. But if it's me I rotate each of them with youth so one is on the field at all times to help guide through the bumps. That way we're in a good place for the next group. No reason to waste opportunities just for the **** of it.
Its not insanity, it will work itself out I am sure. They just wanted to give those guys a chance, But McCoy gonna have to see it and be ok with it, you can lose guys when you make promises and have to go back on it. Now you lose the entire room and it becomes toxic quick which can spread. That unit has to be one. Idk why this is hard to believe, even if you didnt play ball, I am sure in life you have been part of a team.

Yup. IIRC, Toney was also open for a first on the play that Mensah bailed on the pocket and did that push pass attempt to Fletcher.
Who’s to say Cantwell at RT is the solution to all our problems? May strengthen interior & create an issue on the edge.
Might as well hold open tryouts and trot out a random CIS’er. SJ is one the worst lineman I’ve seen in years, even considering Golden’s *** OL photoshoot days, and no one else could get reps over him?
McCoy struggled in pass protection a lot last season and, even though Wake is the only team we’ve played with a viable EDGE, he really hasn’t shown the same issues. The OL guys can better explain the differences needed, but maybe Cantwell is simply more comfortable out there than inside quickly reacting to slants, twists, and getting underneath DTs. I mean, he faced Wilson and Lightfoot all spring, summer, and fall camp. We should have a pretty **** good idea of what he’d look like against ACC DEs.
We have won 3 football games, all by 13 points or more. Relax.
Have you watched Cantwell play guard? He's not ready. His pad level is bad, he's still awkward (means he's thinking and not playing), and he's not overly fluid right now. I think he needs to work on his flexibility and overall athleticism, but that's another discussion.
Mario and Alex are here to win games, period. They're not willingly putting out a product that they know is ****tier than another one they can roll out there because they're protecting NFL hopes of a kid who has a long way to go to even be draftable.
I agree with all of this, rotating players has not been a strength of ours.

I remember camp opening and being told 6 or 7 wr would play and they trusted.. but games started and it was same as before 4 guys taking majority. They throw Jacobs like 5 reps and say be happy.. lol.. **** wild..
I support this and would go a step further to let RR stay at LG. When making changes sometimes it's best to make one at a time to see the impact vs multiple changes and not know what really works.
That said, the product suggests RR and SJ should not be starters at []__[]Miami.
If cici is a guard,McCoy is **** sure a guard. Swallow your pride and play your money position. When he gets to the league and they draft a tackle, they dont give a **** if you "put in the work" these guys are paid now. Gtfooh with promises

This is McCoy’s money year, so the odds of moving him to guard are pretty low. He’s a senior captain who has been waiting years to finally play his natural position, and he’s exceeded everyone’s expectations so far. He deserves that spot
Also, why does everyone assume a 6'9", 330-pound true freshman is going to be ready to play guard on Day 1? There’s a reason the hype simmered down during fall camp when he started taking more reps at guard. It’s not his natural position, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t extremely talented. In my eyes, he’s a first-round tackle all day.
Wasn't Cantwell the highest graded guard against FAMU?
