Recruiting is about to kick into high gear with a flurry of spring visits on deck. Here is the latest:
- There are three names to monitor at quarterback: Will Mencl (Chandler, AZ), Davin Davidson (Sarasota, FL) and Israel Abrams (Chicago, IL). Davidson has been on campus and Mencl and Abrams have visits on deck. It's still too early to call this one, as the visits are key and the QB position is always subject to dominoes falling at other schools. But these are the names in play right now.
- RB Myson Johnson-Cook (East St. Louis, IL) remains a monster priority and has two more visits on deck. Tyson Robinson (Jackson, MS) and Elijah Kimble (Buffalo, NY) remain top targets. Two new names to monitor: David Segarra (Greenville, SC) and Brennan Lacey (Dallas, TX). Lacey lives with the family of Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty.
- The Canes continue to evaluate their needs at wide receiver, given the abundant talent on campus with multiple years of eligibility and the massive commitment of Nick Lennear (Carol City). Tre Moore (Austin, TX) is a name with a lot of momentum. The staff also has high grades on Kesean Bowman (Nashville, TN) and Dakota Guerrant (Detroit, MI). One name to add to the board: Antayvious Ellis (Fort Worth, TX). I do not expect us to pursue Monshun Sales (Indianapolis, IN).
- The tight end situation is the same. DeMarcus DeRoche (Cardinal Gibbons) is committed and Anthony Cartwright (Detroit, MI) is a versatile, big-bodied target who brings something different to the room. There is still mutual interest with Jaxon Dollar (Charlotte, NC), who is an elite talent. There will be a heavy market there. On the current team, the Canes love the athleticism that Israel Briggs and Gavin Mueller are showing in workouts.
- Mark Matthews (STA) and Sean Tatum (Fort Pierce) remain extremely high priorities and the Canes are pushing hard. I like Miami for both at this stage. One name to add to the board: 6'6, 310-pound Tyler Ford (Gainesville, GA).
- At defensive end, Miami continues to push for elite targets like DJ Jacobs (Atlanta, GA), Jaiden Bryant (Columbia, SC) and Marcus Fakatou (Los Angeles, CA). The Canes got an in-person look at local sack artist Trevoris Finley (Carol City) at 305 Day and liked what they saw.
- At defensive tackle, the Canes will continue to push for names like Jalen Brewster (Dallas, TX). But I'm told that Josh Johnson (Key West, FL) and Xavier Perkins (Durham, NC) are high-priority takes regardless of who else is on the board. The staff also loves Stive-Bentley Keumajou Yondui (Coral Gables), a 6'3, 300-pounder from England who plays soccer and basketball and also kicks and punts. Ezekiel Ayangbile (Houston, TX) is also a target.
- The linebacker board hasn't changed much, although the recruitment of Kaden Henderson (Tampa) continues to surge.
- At defensive back, some names to monitor are Nash Johnson (Atlanta, GA, Alabama commit), Aamaury Fountain (Macon, GA, South Carolina commit), Zayden Gamble (STA), Gabe Osborne (Oklahoma City, OK), and Sherrod Gourdine (MacArthur). I don't see Miami pursuing KJ Caldwell (Atlanta, GA) or Larry Moon (IMG).
