So was I lol. I remember when we were ecstatic to get some random 3 star to close out the class. Say what you want about Mario. But that dude is the best recruiter in the nation.

I'm not a fan of hyping up a HS kid that has yet to take a college snap, but I hate being a mope even more. I used to get frustrated when people were on the "SFL 3 star" and "if Bama wants him, I want him!!" Clubs. Like Bama didn't need backups to their 5 stars. Lol so hopefully these kids translate to the college game.

Agree. And the Collins kid, especially, is rawer than sushi. Those measurables though!

Still, there are kids you "just know". Shadow called it the grandmother test. Your grandmother may know nothing about football but can still pick out the best player in the game if they're transformational type kids. Guys like Sammy Watkins or Adrian Peterson or Frank Gore.

Elite RBs are usually easy to spot, DBs and WRs right behind them. For example, McClain and Innis, you just know. ... I would say Maui is one of those guys, even though he's at a high beta position like OL.

For all this 1-2 more 5 stars, is the assumption that Derrick Williams a 5 star (he was in the spring but no longer)? Or, are we talking ahout legit 5 stars?

Thanks. This allows me to not waste my time clicking on bumped threads about players we have no real shot at. (I.E., Moore, ****ey, Hill). Looks like Innis is about to be on that list soon as well.

Hartline to Cincy could help us with Innis. Goatass still on staff is another factor.

You think just like me! Or maybe I got that mode of thinking from Shadow myself. Last recruit I legit thought would be a stud was Duke Johnson. He was 100% the mold of a 5 star. To me, 5 stars are body types plus athleticism. 4 stars are athletic, 3 stars are known commodities and so on.
Do teams hit on 3 and 4 stars? Yes. Do 5 stars fail to live up to the rankings? Yes. But I rather see a failed 5 star than a failed or average 3 star. Golden was classic case of this.

@DMoney, do you really only see 35 guys across HS and portal? I was thinking 25 HS and another 15+ from portal. With all the transfers out, it's feels like a good bet that we'll get to 45 or fewer returning scholarship players.

Completely agree with d money if we get Etna on campus I would be shocked if we don’t flip him.

Collins has already OV’d right? Would be awesome if those two could visit together in December
