TE Luka Gilbert commits to Miami

Miami’s Midwest invasion continues with the commitment of 6’7+, 245-pound TE Luka Gilbert, who hails from the Cincinnatti Metro area (Lakota West). Sources describe Gilbert as a smart, tough and “willing *** kicker” with good hands, elite range and body control. They see massive growth potential as a TE who can play inline or be flexed out.

Gilbert, a composite 4* ranked as the #12 TE in the nation, committed to Miami over Kentucky, Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State. Last month, he met with the CanesInSight Podcast and tolds us Miami felt like a “home away from home.” He added that he’s “the most competitive dude you'll ever see. My whole life has been competing with my friends in the backyard, on the football field, to my class rank in school, everything.” A center on the hardwood, Gilbert said that basketball helped him “in areas like rebounding and staying athletic.”

Gilbert has focused on improving his blocking, and said “you can see on the film that I'm gonna make dudes pay out there. That's probably my specialty in my game right now.”

On top of his blocking, Gilbert prides himself on his mental toughness. “I feel like everybody's going to be great when you're feeling good in the beginning of the game, but I feel like the real dog comes out over time. Fourth quarter, that's when the real dog comes out. Who's the toughest mentally when you're tired?“

Gilbert is the sixth commitment in this class, joining QB Luke Nickel, RB Girard Pringle, LB Elijah Melendez, OT Lamar Williams and WR Waden Charles.

Insider on 247 saying that its whoever wants in between E WIlliams and Schott gets the final spot.

With Gaby saying he feels good about Schott earlier today as well seems to me like Miami used the E Williams visit to put some pressure on the TE's to jump in.

Gotta love those qoutes in that interview. Somebody that enjoys when **** gets tough and embraces that dog mentality.

Rooting for him. I think its a big possibility he becomes an OT. He is already heavier than how Zion Nelson came in and we wouldn't have to pit the weight on him in a few months.

This is a very Wisconsin-esque pickup that they turn into a 1st round pick at OT.
