Some thoughts from the scrimmage

Herb Waters and J. Carter going to make it tough for S. Coley to get on the two-deep, barring any injury/suspension/transfer.

Thought it was a pretty good scrimmage overall. Here's what I took away from the game:

-The D didn't get pushed around like last year. Yeah they gave up some yards but they were much more stout against the run and even when receivers caught the ball they were at least being covered and not running free and unchecked.

-I found it interesting that right from that start, and even before Dorsett got hurt, Waters was the #3 WR and running with the 1's on every series. It was pretty much Waters, Dorsett, and Hurns with the 1's up until Dorsett left. Scott stepped in after Philip was forced to leave the game.

-Not sure if the goal was to simulate a perpetual "2 minute environment" on every series but we were in the gun a **** of alot. I'd say more than 60% of the snaps were in the shotgun set with 3 WR's and a Tight end.

-Crawford impressed me. He had a nice 30 or so yard run and caught a few passes out of the backfield. He's going to play a lot this year and he looks pretty **** good.

-Waters is the opposite of Dorsett. He's got crazy run after the catch ability and was breaking ankles out there on several of his underneath grabs. He did drop what would have been a 40-50 yard pass early on though.

-Dorsett dropped a relatively easy, wide open touchdown. Was a shame cause it was a **** of a job by Morris stepping up in the pocket to avoid pressure and firing a laser that pretty much dropped off Dorsett's chest. Dorsett stayed down for a few minutes after the play...I'm guessing he sprained or maybe even tore his ego on the play.

-McCord definitely looks better. I know several have commented he was playing linebacker but I can tell you that most of that was when he was on the field with the 2's. When he did get reps with the one he was being used pretty exclusively at right D end. He actually made a couple nice plays against the run. I thought it was good to see that considering the runs were to his side of the field. Definitely doing a better job of holding up at the point of attack.

-Luther looks much improved. I always felt he had talent but he's really starting to come around. I think we've got 3 pretty good tackles now with him, Porter, and Pierre. Pierre definitely looks bigger.

-I tell you what I liked about Morris the most...yeah he missed some throws but other than the last throw of the scrimmage that was picked by Crawford (ball never should have been thrown) he did a good job of consistently throwing the receiver who had 1 on 1 coverage. You rarely saw a ball forced into traffic. He was the victim of several drops today that would have been additional TD's.

-Duke looked as explosive as ever.

-Overall I was just happy the D didn't get pushed around. I walked away encouraged overall.

Glad to hear the Tampa kids (McCord and Crawford) doing well. Anything on Earl Moore?

Achilles on Dye, Al said he is worried.

Per Beast.

Did the db's give WR's a 15 yrd cushion ?

I thought they mixed in more man than last year...but still not enough to my liking. They were in cover 3 a **** of a lot. Most of the deeper completions came on corner and deep out routes.

Thanks D$ and everyone else.

Discouraged to hear about the young QBs. Olsen better be the truth. We need 2 QBs in the 2014 class.

Didn't comment on the other QB's but I'll concur with what others have said and maybe even take a step further...

Crow doesn't look like a division 1 QB. I hope I'm wrong but even his throwing motion bothers me...he looks like he's shot-putting the ball.

You can tell Williams is a smart dude and he doesn't make dumb decisions but he's got a noodle arm. We could probably survive a game or two if he had to spot start but I'll just say I'm really hoping Olsen hits the ground running.

Feliciano wasn't out there today. I don't think Bunche to guard was a permanent move. More so for depth. He didn't look to good pulling on power.

solid write up. i haven't been on the board today so i don't know what was posted or not, but i'll just throw it some things out there:

Chad Barnes has a very small frame

Morris looked good overall today. overthrew a wide open Herb on one play, went back to him on the next and Herb had a drop. overall Stephen looks like he's been looking (as D$ said). we don't have any problems here.

Brandon Yosha got some burn towards the end of the scrimmage. i thought he looked solid.

Linder is still on crutches and was on the sideline all day.

Brandon McGee was in attendance. i sat next to him in the stands and he was very interested in what was going on on the defensive side of the ball.

i wasn't too impressed with Ryan Williams. like D$ says, i just think he's missing a bit of arm strength.

i don't know if it was just me, but i didn't see D'Ono or Coley on the field at all. i'm assuming they were up in a box.

Dye was injured at the scrimmage. i think it was his ankle that got hurt. he was taken out, worked on, wrapped up, and put on crutches.

Dorsett had a bad drop in the endzone. was shaken up on the play (wasn't anything serious- i think it was more pride than anything else.

i missed the play because it was on the other end of the field, but Duke was part of a big-collision play. all i know is i saw a mouthpiece about 15' in the air (seriously, like 15' in the air). i'm assuming he was the one initiating contact due to the fact that i saw him hop out of the pile with his chin held high.

here's a pick of Dye coming back to the sidelines for anyone that cares:

Reading the reports on the defense have me really, really excited.

Oh...and Figueroa...**** impressive. He almost killed Duke on one play and absolutely blew up a reverse to Dorsett in the open field with lead blockers out in front. Kid looks like a natural.

Do'nt buy the hype mane..I didnt see anything different from last year... ASante dropped a td, dorsett dropped a 40 yard td and scott dropped a 50 yard bomb where he just dusted gunter.. and Morris over threw a wide open waters..I see nothing different Duke did what he wanted it is what it is
