Some standouts from today's scrimmage

- Josh Moore showed very good ball skills and contested-catch ability against some of our better corners.

- With full-live tackling, Keelan Marion used his strength and speed to take a short pass for a long TD.

- Armondo Blount continues to affect the quarterback.

- Carson Beck is a quick thinker with a quick arm and full control of the offense. He moved the ball consistently and made good decisions.

- Malachi Toney is earning trust from the veterans with his unique ability to separate, find space, help his quarterback and track the ball.

- Jacoby Thomas is known for his physicality, but he made an impressive break on the ball to take an INT the other way.

- The run defense won the day with stout play up front.

- Girard Pringle is our fastest tailback and impressed in full contact.

The comments on the run game are somewhat of a concern, only because I’m hoping it’s not another case of us using “tight spilts” where we lead the nation in runs between the guards and no imagination in the run game

Yards per carry - 5th in America
Tackles for loss allowed - 3rd in America
Rushing TDs — 22nd in America (while your QB is 1.1)
20+ yard runs — 26th in America
4th down conversion % — 9th in America

All of this contributed to the best offense in school history, and one of the best of any school in the last decade.

It would break my heart to be top three nationally in rushing yards per play. To paraphrase Albert Einstein, imagination is more important than converting third downs. This season will be a failure if we don't find creative ways to lose yardage by running outside.

Anything to report on the kickers? That position scares the crap out of me.
We won’t know until the games. I think kickoffs will be fine with Carter Davis from FAU. Bert Auburn was a really good kicker in ‘23 and had major issues in ‘24. Can’t tell which version he is from practice. Even the good version will be a downgrade because we had elite play for five years.

I have heard that the operation (snapper, holder) was a disaster for both kickers last year, and that we feel really good about the guys we have there.

Random, but I haven’t heard Booker Pickett’s name one time all fall. Is he healthy/practicing? Interested to see how guys like him and Lightfoot are utilized. Lightfoot still looks thin, but both him and Booker have juice that no one else has off the edge.

Thanks for the notes.

Wasn't Beck the holder at UGA? I think their starting QB always holds if I'm not mistaken

Made a couple nice plays today, including a TFL.
