2025 guard Shelton Henderson has recently decommitted from Duke to follow his primary recruiter, Jai Lucas. Shelton Henderson was included in the list of Instant Impact Recruits by On3.
On3 released their Instant Impact Freshman recruits for the 2025-26 season, and Miami signee guard Shelton Henderson was named to the list. Here is what On3 had to say about him:
Shelton Henderson decommitted from Duke and, within a couple of weeks, announced his commitment to Miami. This came as no real surprise with new head coach Jai Lucas having a relationship with Henderson, not only helping get him to Duke, but also Henderson playing for Lucas’ dad’s JL3 travel program. Henderson is a guy who elevates the floor of a team. A do-it-all type wing who can secondary initiate, create advantages, and play fast in transition. Where he will immediately carve out a role is on the defensive end, able to switch up or down a lineup, guarding multiple positions. Henderson will need to work his way through some shooting questions, but he has a history, through his success in high school, USA Basketball, and travel ball, of finding a way to make winning-type plays.
Henderson is a strong small forward and defensive bully, excelling at defending both inside and outside the post. He effectively handles smaller guards and averaged 2.6 steals and 1.1 blocks per game last season. At 6-foot-6 and 220 pounds, his physical style makes him a dominant opponent on the court.
Shelton Henderson is ranked No. 21 in the 247Sports 2025 Rankings, making him the fourth-best small forward and the top player in Texas.
The excitement is building for the Hurricanes as they have acquired impressive talent from the transfer portal, including Tre Donaldson, Tru Washington, Ernest Udeh Jr., and Malik Reneau. Additionally, Miami has added notable recruits in the 2025 class along with Henderson, such as four-star guard Dante Allen and Slovakian wing Timotej Malovec.
