What's the thinking behind 1st team O vs 2nd team defense ?

You want to be able to run all of your action (offensively and defensively). You want to get clean plays on film to ensure concepts are understood by the players. It's tough to do that when 1's are going against the 1's

1's will go against each other in later scrimmages

Yeah, they usually will have 1's against 1's in the last scrimmage before the season starts.

LOL at dudes scrambling so hard to paint a picture based purely off empty stats. No idea who beat who or what happened on any play.

Yeap. I remember Whipple crowning Sam Shields as a stud, practice after practice.

So Bethel isn't a bust?

he was out all last year with acl injury how can he be a bust hasn't played and knew coming in wasn't gonna play last year. that and he is only a true sophomore in terms of classes I think is a rs freshman in terms of football .

if u are gonna label people busts going into 2nd year on team no kid in history has a shot with u.

I think you're confusing Bethel with Patchan.

In the grand scheme of things, stats on an inter-team scrimmage are pretty useless. But they are cute to look at. Unless you were there live and in-person, we really don't have any clue how the day went.

Whipple, One of the worst OC's to ever coach here or in college compared to Richt.....

I agree with Chise's point. But this analogy fuqin blows...

Most of the sacks occurred with the 2nd string OL going against the 1st team D. Yes, that's a mismatch. Our starting 5 OL is solid though.

No Richards? And 9 sacks? Lawd, that OL is leaky.

don't care if it was against the 2nd unit. those # of sacks are extremely concerning. if we get any injuries on the OL, we are fooked.

What are these TFL and sacks you keep mentioning? Was there a rule change allowing that now?

TFL - are allowed but sacks are basically the coaches guessing whether the Qb would have been dropped.

Look at this way. The offensive line being dominated by the defensive line is good thing. They are facing a scheme that will make them better against Miami opponents who play similar type schemes. The years under Golden we never saw the Oline being dominated by the D-line with sacks.
