Richt gets his QB

Mark Richt hit on his top target at quarterback for the second straight recruiting cycle as IMG QB Artur Sitkowski (6-4, 215) committed to the Hurricanes on Saturday night.

Sources told CanesInSight last week that Sitkowski was leaning towards a possible commitment this weekend. Richt expressed his excitement as well.

This is Sitkowski's first season at IMG. He is transferring from Old Bridge, New Jersey. Last September, he said, “I really believe in what Coach Richt is doing down there. I love his history of working with the position,” he said. “Seeing that he gives freedom to the quarterbacks if you earn his trust is music to my ears.”

Fair enough, ****** numbers in New Jersey are definitely a red flag. But what will you say if he puts up big numbers at IMG? I can already foresee the comments on how its the talent around him that is really putting up those numbers. He didn't put up good numbers his junior year, but we shouldn't just trash him and put him in a no-win Bleakvision situation just yet.

Sitkowski has tools, and its not just Richt that sees that. 4th ranked Pro-Style QB, offers from big programs all across the country and IMG recruited him for their all-star team. We don't know if he's the goods yet, but he's probably not Gray Crow.

Edit: My bad, I didn't read your earlier posts. Point taken, we shouldn't drink the kool-aid just yet.

I hate to agree with Vern but there was a lot of people slurping crow and using the " he played in a run heavy offense " excuse. Even though his film was very meh. At least Sitkowski is a camp super star and highly rated. Crow not so much.

I'm at the wait and see approach. I have questions but this season will tell us a lot. Until then he's another shorts/shirt warrior.

Why you got negged when they're legitimate questions, that just shows you the immaturity of some.

Bottomline, his stats are unimpressive as ****. If he landed at UF or FSU, most would be laughing. He's got the frame and arm you look for, but I want to see it in the field. I refuse to just say that he plays in a wing t offense or whatever the excuse du jour is. He'll be surrounded by good coaching and talent few have, so he better bring it. I hope his numbers explode, but right now questions are deserved.

Edit: I've seen comparisons to Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan. Hold up on that stuff as he's more like Gray Crow or Kirby Freeman than either of them at this point.

Since when stats go into recruiting evals??......how many high school qb's with crazy stats go to college and stink?? Writing this dude off because he didnt throw for a million yards and thousand touchdowns is not something I'm gonna do....TRUST YOUR EYES!!! Richt doesnt care about the stats but guys on here do...making it key component instead of physical ability and skill....CMR can coach this guy up and he'll do numbers....He already express the desire in wanting to be in a pro-style under the center offense....

Stats aren't everything, but when your offensive leader puts stats like his up, it's gotta be a red flag. A good player will typically elevate the play if those around him, I'm not sure he does. His offense leads with the run, so he should have open guys when they decide to throw. He has more INT's than TD's which doesn't mean he doesn't have help, but instead that he made poor throws or decisions when he threw the ball.

I agree with K9, in that he will have to to work on his game behind last year's class. Anything we get from him would be a plus, but on paper today, he's just not an exciting prospect. A door into IMG is his biggest plus to me.

Edit:. Your attempt at downplaying stats was straight out of the excuse book. I'll counter it with there are for more high school players who did nothing in high school who never got an opportunity or failed when they did than their prolific counterparts bombing.

No surprise that Sitkowski is the QB this cycle.

He's a top 10 national QB with some solid offers - and Richt wanted him

He's definitely got the physical attributes you'd like in a QB.

Richt knows a lot about QBs and has done well with many of them.

Hopefully this guy will live up to the top 10 billing....

And it gets us a NJ recruit in this cycle - that's always a good state to get players from....

It's pretty simple and obvious, but I guess it's worth repeating:

Even if you tear up the High School game, you probably won't kill it on the College level... If you're not killing it on the High School level, then the odds are overwhelmingly against you killing it on the College level.

I'll reserve judgment until I see what he can do at IMG with a better offensive system and better talent.
