Wonder if he could be our next OC.. gotta think the numbers this offense will put up.. Dawson will finally get a HC job

The pitch is: “Come run your own room for a year or two, and then make the jump back to the NFL”. Our last RB coach is now the Cardinals RB coach, and the entire room has returned.

Mario really is vengeful and petty. Da*m you NFL for taking my RB coach. Now I will take one of yours.

J/k of course. But what this tells me is that our methodical coach engages in an extremely thorough search. I am also 100% certain that none of us CIS college football experts had a clue who Favian Upshaw was as of February 25, 2026.

Maybe, just maybe, we will remember to leaving the coaching in the future to the people who are actually paid to coach because they have expertise in coaching and the greatest motivation to do well. That is until we lose a game and we all become smarter than the coach.

This is a tactical hire more than it is a long-term solution. I wouldn't have been a fan if our RB room was sparse and we needed someone to come in and overhaul, but that isn't the case here.

but but but he didn't play at Miamiiiiiiii

I forgot Fritz was at GA Southern. You know Fritz is Etheridge’s FIL.

I didn't know this.
Interesting angle.
Sounds like Etheridge put in a good word on UM's behalf (or vice-versa?).

I remember Upshaw from his bowl game where he was very good and also during that game they mentioned it several times he was ready to go to FIU until Mario was fired.
Otherwise, I would be lying if I stated if I was following Upshaw's career.
Mario takes an awful long time hiring coaches so it's kind of frustrating as a fan, but I like that he avoids making lazy hires and right now I'm sure many rising young coaches are looking to work for him.
Also, this constant reshuffling of staff helps prevent things from going stale and I think Mario and his holdovers see this as an opportunity to learn new things during these interviews (I Cincy HC Satterfield mentioned this).

We hired an assistant coach by the end of February.

That's lightning quick for Mario.

We didn't randomly stumble across this name. Payton is cut throat & about as sharp as they come. I'm sure he will work out just fine.
FWIW, Payton was a RB coach in college from 1990-1993. Earned him a QB coach opportunity and off he went.

321 Lil City baby, Great young mind , high character fr.

Looks good to me but I don’t know why anyone would leave Sean Payton and the NFL for a college job.
Yea it's curious that he was interviewed for NFL OC and then took a college RB coach job. Maybe Mario anticipates Dawson moving on soon and wants someone in the wings.

FWIW he's well regarded here in Denver.

With the title change is it official now? Gaby’s original tweet was ambiguous. @DMoney update?
