RECAP: 2021 Paradise Camp

My take is Manny made the most of a tough situation with Covid restrictions forcing the 2022 kids to take their OVs in June if they want to commit before their senior season Fall camps start up.

Just watching that video of the opening speeches with all the recruits taking a knee on the IPF, the numbers of campers were impressive. IMO, too many. Which is why the play was spotty per Adams' writeup above. I prefer Richt's approach to having fewer higher quality interactions.

Keeping it real, not enough buzz coming out of Paradise this year. I don't see many commitments over the next two weeks from the campers. Hopefully the other 2022 kids that are wrapping up their OVs elsewhere are ready to commit. I really want to see the class grow by a few in July to keep pace and not force the coaches to take Plan Bs. My concern is who are the kids likely to declare any time soon? Cull, Graves? Anyone else?

Regarding Bissainthe, ELJ and MJJ, I think Manny and staff threaded the needle well. The community backlash was resounding, rightfully so, and they all manned up and attended, which was a step in the right direction. Miami coaches treated them respectfully without giving them the royal treatment like they did Stewart and Lyons. MJJ will not end up at FSU, the program is a shell of itself. ELJ may not get the coveted call from Saban. And Bissainthe, well wtf knows what's going to happen there? ... Anyway, if the cards fall in the right way, there's a path for them to be part of the team.

I'm a bit concerned about Stewart and Ohio State...He had a photo of himself dressed in tosu uniform placed prominently on his ig. I'm just no liking that right now.

This is the same take some posters have every year. You guys need to stop thinking commitments are going to rain from the sky after Paradise camp. It never happens. The point is to keep momentum going into the dead period. Reality is, we aren’t getting many top tier guys to commit until after they see the product on the field and Manny knows this. As one poster said..”Sept-Nov recruits” are the ones left on our big board. We need to perform when it counts to officially seal the deal.

I think by mid July we'll have Graves, Cull, and Durant in the boat. Just gotta see what happens with Spells as he's a maybe, can see him going either way, but its definitely possible our class doubles in commits 3 weeks from now.

Don't forget Singletary because if OSU isn't strongly confident after this weekend that's going to be something to watch for

buzz is in the eye of the beholder:

I didn’t see an answer on this last night. His name was being thrown around. We had him on the phone while he was at osu? Is that confirmed?
If I'm not mistaken Gary said this and I think it's random as **** to say that without being very sure so I'd have to believe it

I'm choosing to be optimistic about linebackers. Bissainthe went out of his way to get to Paradise after the Instagram imbroglio; Jackson seems at least to be pumping the brakes on ASU; and Tolan is quiet but he's around. I think we have a reasonable shot at landing all 3.
Meanwhile, there were several Plan B-type LB at the camp--namely, Kobe McCloud, Leon Hart, and Avian Rice with offers and Kailep Edwards & Benjamin Hudson without offers. What I'm not hearing is any buzz about any of them. Maybe it's coming, or maybe they were all underwhelming. But the sense I get is that we're still on Plan A at LB.

I really don’t get how people who followed the event walk away and say not enough buzz coming out. Multiple OVs that went well, premier talent showing up on campus to be there including in state and OOS 5 stars. The big dog recruitments are going to drag along until ESD for the most part. Would y’all rather us load up on kids they have lower on the board to juice the numbers? There’s a a solid 4-6 kids that could pop over the next few weeks. Graves, Cull, Jackson, Durant. With a handful of others that will decide before the season. Not sure what y’all want.

The first part of ur post was spot on. Iirc, Richt had Paradise Camp, not just as a camp, but treated it like a quasi Rivals 5 star camp. It wasn’t just open to anyone; only the best were invited & if u were an under classman, u had to be special. Hence the invite went out.

Now, it feels like “a” camp. Love the amount of former players coming back to help, but yeah, we need to go back to making this an exclusive invite.

Regardless, off season Manny does great; but as I’ve said from the onset of this off season, these kids r now going to see these campuses again. We’re going to have to show these higher profiled kids that we r serious about winning on the field.

I think we eventually land him with a good season, but valid concern. I got a buddy working for ohio state and they really want him so we're going to have to keep chipping away and stay on him. They got Garrett in his ear i wouldnt be surprised if young has reached out. I like are chances

Outside of Jackson, it seems like we're pretty much in the same spot for Stewart, Hood, Richardson, Tolan, Skinner, MJJ, Little, and Bissainthe. @Rellyrell put it best, Paradise used to feel like a special event for top players. This year's version just felt like a camp with a lot alumni in attendance.

A buzz doesn't necessarily mean getting commits. It can be great reviews about the visit, the staff feeling good about a kid and vice-versa, certain recruits showing up, etc. The cookout for example generated a bigger buzz than Paradise imo.
