Since it's the off-season, now would be a good time to debut a project I've been working on for a while. Here are some comparisons between Miami skill-position recruits and current NFL players based on skillset and physical gifts. This doesn't mean the recruits will turn out as good as these guys, but it is just a comparison of styles.

Today’s comparisons are for the receivers

Ermon Lane: Julio Jones

Lane and Jones have the rare ability to go up and get those fifty-fifty balls almost effortlessly. They both are good route runners with strong hands. Although Lane and Jones may not be the ones to catch a screen pass and take it down the field for 80, they can get deep.

Travis Rudolph: Reggie Wayne

Wayne has polished catching skills, as does Rudolph, and he can make difficult catches look easy. They both are very smooth and always in control. Rudolph brings the added threat of punt returning, as he is a threat to score with the ball in his hands.

Johnnie Dixon: Antonio Brown

Both guys are good route runners with big-play ability, but Dixon may even be more versatile with his ability to line up outside.

Braxton Berrios- Wes Welker

This is an easy comparison, but it is the right one IMO. Everything about Berrios's game resembles Welker but with a little more explosiveness. Berrios ran a 4.48 at the same camp where Dixon and Lane ran 4.5+, and his quickness (like Welker's) makes him impossible to cover. Berrios showed at the Miami camp that he can adjust to bad passes and he also has surprising jumping ability, similar to Santana Moss.

Darrell Langham- Tommy Streeter

Langham has good speed and amazing size that he uses to catch the jump balls and deep balls. Like Streeter, his route running is very good for a big man and he catches the ball away from his body. One area I would really like to see Langham improve is drops; scouts have reported he seems to be able to catch the hard passes but drops the easier ones. If he want to live up to this comparison, he needs to be more consistent.
