-Duke was working a lot with the first team. He will be used in a variety of ways that we haven’t seen a Canes running back be used in a while.

-Danny Dillard definitely looks the part. He is HUGE and was showing good hands out of the backfield. Lined up a variety of ways, not just as a RB.

Nobody talks about Finnie here ever. Don't forget, he was Golden's favorite last fall. Mostly for how hard he works. I fully expect him to be in the mix to start until the end.

I think most people expect to see Finnie on the field quite a bit this year.

I do, at least.

Here are some notes from today’s practice (August 5th)

Black Shirts- Shayon Green, Denzel Perryman, Darius Smith, Eddie Johnson, Thomas Finnie, Vaughn Telemaque, Olsen Pierre, Brandon McGee, Kacy Rodgers, Ramon Buchanon

-With the absence of Seantrel Henderson, Ereck Flowers took almost every snap with the 1st team at RT, with Jon Feliciano at guard.

-There has been some speculation about whether Davon Johnson was playing WR or CB, but he is at WR.

-The four in the mix for punt returns are Dorsett, Dallas Crawford, Duke, and Vernon Davis.

-Dallas Crawford looks slimmed down and was showing great burst. He was working a lot out of the backfield.

-Olsen Pierre looks to have added a lot of weight and finally looks like a DT.

-Malcolm Lewis was the most impressive freshman receiver out there. He is physically ready and is at his perfect playing weight already. He did not drop a single pass and shows great quickness. He will be on the field this year.

-The most impressive receiver out there was Phillip Dorsett. Not only is he the fastest receiver by far, but also shows great reliability. He added a lot of weight in the offseason and did not lose any speed.

-Asante Cleveland was working with the ones, not Clive Walford. Walford was inconsistent catching the football.

-Tracy Howard and Larry Hope are the top two freshman corners right now on the depth chart. Howard worked sparingly with the ones and lived up to his billing. He blanketed receivers all day long and there was only one catch made on him on an underneath route.

11-on-11 Notes
-Finnie and Hurns were matched up on the outside and Williams made a nice throw on a go route to Hurns, but it was good coverage by Finnie and Hurns wasn’t able to make the play.

-Malcolm Lewis beat Antonio Crawford on two plays in a row, but Crawford had good coverage both times. One of them was a catch and the other was missed by Morris.

-Tyriq McCord lined up in a variety of ways as expected. His long arms and speed will get him on the field early.

-Larry Hope looked great coverage-wise, he should surprise people. Good size

-There was one play where Robert Lockhart ran a go route against Nate Dortch and a Lockhart made a nice grab over him for a TD. It was a perfectly thrown ball by Morris.

-Kendal Thompkins beat Hope deep once and Morris hit him with another absolutely perfect deep ball for a TD.

-Jelani Hamilton was in the rotation for the DL and looked big.

-Deon Bush and Rayshawn Jenkins were both working with the second unit a lot, more that Andrew Swasey, who is listed ahead of them on the depth chart.

-Raphael Kirby looks big and made a few nice plays in the backfield.

-Interesting Note: Danny Isidora was actually playing LT with the 3rd group.

-Ramon Buchanon showed showed some nice burst after recovering from a knee injury. Look for him to be used in a multitude of ways.

Overall Thoughts
-There were some drops by the receivers and tight ends, which was concerning, but that should improve with reps.

-Morris is the heavy favorite over Williams right now, which shouldn’t be a surprise. Morris looks like he has totally regained his arm strength after his injury, but was a little off accuracy-wise. That is another thing that should improve with reps.

-I’m very impressed with the freshman receivers. I don’t see a flaw in Malcolm Lewis’ game and he should step in right away. Herb Waters also looked bigger from when I had last seen him. He looks to be near 185-190.

-The team got a lot of work in today and it was very up-tempo.

-Two guys who didn’t see the field much were Ladarius Gunter and Nate Dortch. Dortch isn’t as much of a surprise as Gunter.

-Jalen Grimble wasn't out there a whole lot either

FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP.

Amongst other reasons for fapping. Just glad to see even a hint of Flowers being ready now, Morris hitting deep balls, and the young DBs putting in work.

-With the absence of Seantrel Henderson, Ereck Flowers took almost every snap with the 1st team at RT, with Jon Feliciano at guard.

Stated in a early thread Flower looks like 1st round draft pick .

-The four in the mix for punt returns are Dorsett, Dallas Crawford, Duke, and Vernon Davis.

Dorsett PR
Crawford KR

-Olsen Pierre looks to have added a lot of weight and finally looks like a DT.

Good news indeed,Were (Canes ) can use depth at DT
Pierre 6"4 290/King 6"1 290/ Robinson 6"3 295
vs
Freshman Briscoe 6"4 310/Moore 6"0 300/Ivery 6"1 331

I'm sure, Jed will find away to get Phillip Dorsett the ball...wr srceen , reverse ,hitch and go route

-Duke was working a lot with the first team. He will be used in a variety of ways that we haven’t seen a Canes running back be used in a while.

Just taking a guess, I bet DUKE is in motion 50% of time.

-Danny Dillard definitely looks the part. He is HUGE and was showing good hands out of the backfield. Lined up a variety of ways, not just as a RB.

Lord know we need a big back, and Dillard is big 6"2 220 freshman

Nice both player are still below avg-size for college CB's but in 3 year
Hope and Howard body's will be transform into grown *** men...

-Tyriq McCord lined up in a variety of ways as expected. His long arms and speed will get him on the field early.
I really want McCord to red-shirt it aint happening
Tyriq will play

-Larry Hope looked great coverage-wise, he should surprise people. Good size

Is he DT or DE

Excellent work Peter.

I have nothing much to add, but I will say Howard is as advertised. He and Carter were lined up in one-on-ones and they ended up with Carter face down in the dirt. Physical, aggressive player.

Very, very impressed with Dorsett. As Pete said, he was Morris's safety blanket all day. He ate up the defense underneath and showed tremendous quickness and hands. When you combine those slot-type skills with his deep speed, he is an incredibly difficult cover.

the thing that stands out to me the most....

black jersey - brandon mcgee

has he turned the corner?!?

I mean he and Finnie are the only guys with any experience but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets passed up by one of the young guys at some point. He just doesn't seem to have great instincts. He was a lot more physical last season which is encouraging.

Great read. There definitely seems to be forward progress in the team. IF we happen to get lucky and keep injuries to a minimum, this team has enough to win 9 games.

I think the first two games will tell us a lot. If we win @BC and @KState, things could get interesting.

Didn't we look horrible in spring scrimmages on offense?

If we can even find some decent running game, and limit turnovers, we can get to 9 wins. But we have to have something on offense. I think the D will be surprisingly strong, and in this horrible league, we could "Va Tech" our way to an unexciting 9 wins.

Yet the DB coach last week said Finnie wasnt ready to play last year...take eveything what you see and hear during camp with a grain of salt

We'll have to see how Morris plays. I personally think he has all the tools to be a very good one.

I still think Ryan Williams never starts a down for Miami.

We barely had anyone on offense during the spring. That walk on white kid was the leading WR in the spring game.

if by physical you mean putting on a big hit and knocking himself out while the other guy gets up and trots off... then yes he was alot more physical.

at least he was trying.

i give mcgee alot of **** but i want him to do well more than anyone.
