Powell open to playing multiple positions

Deerfield Beach ATH Brandon Powell has had a jam-packed summer, which has included participating in multiple camps, committing to Tennessee, de-committing from Tennessee, and then committing to Miami last weekend. The versatile athlete was also taking an online class in order to graduate early and get to Miami in January.

“I just finished my online economics class that was required so right now I’m set to just play the season, get it over with, and go off to college in January,” said Powell who boasts a 4.2 GPA.

Powell wasted no time committing to Miami after de-committing from Tennessee earlier in the same day.

“It’s really good because I don’t like all the hype and the attention so that’s really why I wanted to get it over with before the season started so I can focus on football. It’s a big relief.”

Something that Powell likes is the fact that Miami’s recruiting class is filled with players from the South Florida area.

“It’s always good to compete against other South Florida players. Going to college with them will make all of us great because everybody from South Florida is an athlete and we will make each other better by going against each other in practice.”

Miami offensive coordinator James Coley told Powell they would use him in the Duke Johnson role. What did that mean to the speedster?

“That just shows all my hard work is paying off and all the coaches see it in me. I’m just going to keep working so the coaches continue to see it in me.”

Although Powell expects to play primarily running back, he is not closed to the idea of working in at other spots.

“I’m 100% committed to playing running back, but if they need me somewhere else or wherever the money is whether it’s cornerback or slot, I’ll do anything to help out my team.”

Some speculated that Powell’s commitment signaled a decline in Miami’s interest towards Dalvin Cook, but the Deerfield Beach star says that is not the case.

“I haven’t really talked to Dalvin much because he’s committed to UF, but Hurlie Brown told me they still wanted him really badly.”

Love the kid's mentality

Agreed. Some kid's just have that special mentality that will not allow them to do anything but succeed. Powell seems to have that. Corn Elder is another example of that. That's why I know Corn will end up being an awesome corner.

this kid was a must have, his highlights are unreal... coaches are stock piling weapons, guys who always seem to find the endzone

I gotta believe the staff wants him on offense.

Talented and smart, that's nice to see. Sounds like he really has a great head on his shoulders, congrats Brandon keep up the good work, it will pay off in the future....

One of the most well-spoken and humble kids I've interviewed

Great news that he is graduating early. IMO he can make an early impact at slot receiver and in the return game.

BP is an accomplished RB, so it shows the type of character the kid has that he would be so willing to accept a possible change of position if the coaches were to ask. Though, after watching his highlights, I personally would like to see him stay at RB or somewhere else on O. Kid looks absolutely electric with the ball in his hands.

Just another high character, quality kid that will be underappreciated by the star slurpers even though he has sick skills. Glad to hear he is an EE.

Welcome to the :neonu:

Man, these kids really don't understand the concept of "100% committed"... They can't even commit to one position, let alone a school! :p

How much weight can he handle at the next level? Love his explosiveness, hope he can handle some bulk without losing a step.

I'd love to see him playing RB, but also coming into the slot every so often from the backfield to see that terrorized "holy ****, what the **** is about to happen" look on defense's faces. Can't imagine the size of the **** an opposing defense will drop if they see this kid, Duke, and Yearby on the field at the same time accompanied by a Junior Malcolm Lewis, Sophomore Stacey Coley and Johnnie Dixon.

Good lord. Let me not get ahead of myself.

wherever the money is.....

This is the type of guy every team would want.... he knows the staff is recruiting D. Cook and it doesnt bother him one bit.

Could be scary using him on a jet sweep with Duke in the backfield.
