The best thing about this discussion is competition at the QB spot. It has been a long time since this has happened. Competition makes players fight for the job. Should be very interesting spring and fall.

I don't like Perry at QB at all. I think Weldon is better but is a solid backup QB. Allison looks like a great vocal leader and the best arm talent.

Richt wasn't positive about Allison at all in interviews

What worries me about Weldon is 20 INTs in 20 career games. Can't give the ball away like that.

That is concerning.. but w/this defense, I'm ok with extra TO's next year if a kid is out there making plays & actually showing emotion. Better than watching statue KAYAK get sacked by a blade of grass.

The best thing about Weldon's film is that you can tell he knows where the ball should go right away. He already knows where his throw is PRE-SNAP. He's not back there, moping around in the pocket looking for an open guy. He's not a junkyard QB. That's why his tape shows him throwing every route in the book.

You can tell that he already understands coverages and where the "open" throw is against every coverage.

Overall, you like Weldon more than Perry?

Right now, yes. LOL

But I guess we'll have to see how Perry responds to coaching and also what we plan to do with him.

I'm buying into the increased hype on Weldon lately. When he committed, basically everyone dismissed it (myself included) as a safe backup QB type pick-up. He hardly played his junior year due to injury and the Sophomore tape on him looked good, but nothing special (he has grown tremendously since then, both physically and as a QB). So, I guess that explains why the board was seemingly so late to notice the flashes he was showing as a senior. His senior year tape shows a lot to get excited about.

I still don't know who I choose if I had to pick one between the two, but I am fairly confident Perry has almost no chance of winning the starting QB job for Fall 2017. Not enrolling early paired with being relatively raw means no shot in my opinion. With that said, the one thing about Perry that I've always been enamored with is his seemingly elite pocket instinct. He might not have refined footwork in the pocket, but he seems to be the rare type of QB who can truly feel pressure and evade while keeping his eyes downfield. That's always one of the first things I look for in a QB prospect, and don't often find.

I definitely value your opinion on here so I was wondering if you had any thoughts on this.

Anyone else think his film looks similar to Jacorys coming out of NW? Great deep ball accuracy and can put great touch on the ball when he needs to.

(Yes I don't have a lot of posts, but Ive been around for a bit).

I don't know why they negged you. Perry's tape looks very similar to Jacory's. Bunch of deep balls.

You gotta understand something, the average fan just likes flash. "Ooooh deep balls! Touchdowns! He's a stud!" Meanwhile he's just chucking the ball up to relatively wide open WR's.

Truthfully, this tape doesn't show me **** except that Perry can play backyard football. The Weldon kid's tape is by far more impressive.

Not saying Perry can't be good, he's obviously gifted, but nothing about his tape shows me that he's ready for the mental aspect of playing QB at this level. Doesn't look like he was coached much at all.
You watch the Weldon tape and you see a kid who has excellent footwork, who gets the ball out of his hands in a hurry and throws ropes all over the field (not just vertical).

after watching all 15 min of that highlight, when i read your post, it feels like you only watched the beginning 1/3. "bunch of deep balls", is not at all how i would begin to describe what i just watched. honestly, & not dogging you at all..but just watch all of it and see if it doesnt change your stance just a little.

i saw plenty of slants, seams, outs, digs. sometimes on a rope, sometimes with the necessary touch. i saw a kid who was very comfortable feeling & moving in the pocket and, while scrambling, kept his eyes downfield and consistently found open wr's.

and the fact that he threw 56 td's to only 6 int's over the past 2 years tells me an awful lot about his mental makeup. that's a product of good decision making.

Less than a minute into his film and I've already seen several throws that don't show on Perry's tape. Weldon's clearly a more polished QB. That post/corner throw is a thing of beauty and he's throwing ropes into the middle of the field. He has REAL footwork, not to be mistaken for the footwork yall think Perry has, which is actually just him mumbling around the pocket.

coach i could be wrong but he was doing crazy stuff against weak comp. to think he can come in late as a true fresh and do this in the ACC, i think fans are crazy
Their competition is about the same. Tampa is top heavy and after about the top 5 or so teams, the comp drops. And Vanguard, being in west bumba****, plays teams from east bumba****...

Honestly, I stopped watching after about 3 minutes.

I'd say we're looking at a battle between a polished QB and a dynamic athlete with potential. It'll be interesting and I'm actually looking forward to it.

Bump. Can't stop watching. If its between Weldon and Perry, I think we'll be in good hands

If we're going to continue to run an RPO-based offense, it's all going to come down to who can make the quickest decisions pre- and post-snap. Extending plays is great (and necessary, and something we've sorely lacked under Kaaya) but above all Richt's offense is about timing. Whoever gets this down first wins the job, IMO.
