This guy has a great story going, but the discussion on this guy throughout the off-season has been unbearable to read. People already declaring victory on both sides of the coin over the course of 7 months and before he has played a game.

Its like all of the star haters are out in full force to use up the material they've had stored away for years the second one of these types shows any sign of life on our own team.

Let's say I'm a 2* O line guy headed to a so-so school and I am offered an opportunity to go to Miami. This is the U, so I'd better give it everything I've got to show that a) they made a good decision and b) I deserve to go to the next level. How do I do that? I eat what the trainer tells me. I work out as much as I can. I practice and study film.

Zion is hungry. He's got something to prove and he's gonna prove his detractors wrong. That's everything you want in a Cane.

Yeah, it is, even if he was still around 250 and looking at starting as the LT for App State.

The glass half full view: He's added the weight and sounds like he's kept his athletcism. Most importantly, he's learning to battle against one of the best in the ACC. Now it may not transfer well against an SEC recruited DE, but you never know. He's got a great opportunity to lock in, and I'll bet he plays with a little chip on his shoulder. I don't think we have many more options, and sometimes you have to grow an O-Line.

I think barry pulls him if he starts getting whipped and pushes Scaife out there to LT

They can help with a TE, if they are forced to move Scaife out, it does't bode well for the season. If the guy isn't killing us every single play, let him battle - the more they play together, the quicker they gell. If he can finish this game at LT it will pay dividends, win or lose.

Agreed. I hope the young man can hold his own. I do believe we will keep Brevin in tight on either the left or right side on the majority of formations until we can see what our tackles got. We will probably see a lot of runs, jet sweeps, screens etc.. to help also

You are missing the point.... The post you were responding to says that a Former NFL coach says he has taken to training well and is getting to watch him go up against a pretty good d-line to gauge how well he is.

Your response was about FSU Oline and how they went against a good dline, how do you know they (FSU Oline) weren't getting whipped in practice? And whether they were or weren't, it is wholly irrelevant. Tee didn't say Zion was stonewalling Garvin, just that Barry has a top DE to put against this Frosh and see how he holds up.

Also, to state that Zion starting in an indictment on the recruiting/development, not a positive reflection on his ability is a tad bit disingenuous....

If we had All-ACC tackles and he beat them I agree he would be applauded a lot more but to completely discount what the kid has done and just say he is only playing because everyone else sucks is simply inaccurate.

Standing ovation!!!! Thank you! Tip of the cap to you sir.

The starting lineup isn't set in stone. You've got dudes freaking out about him starting against Zuniga. I'm saying if when the lights come on God forbid he quickly gives up two sacks, you can bet we don't see him at LT the rest of the game. We'll adjust and substitute Herbert or make multiple adjustments and put Scaife at LT.

But I don't think that happens. I'm just saying all this gloom and doom is unwarranted.
If we have to go to Herbert look out. He stinks. If you don’t feel like being concerned that our LT was a 240lb high schooler a few months ago, great. It’s false bravado based on nothing

A few years back Clemson, Washington and bama all started a true freshman lineman and they made the playoffs. That’s the top 2 most talented teams doing that with depth everywhere

Yeap!!!!! Great post

Our de's are better than the Gaytas de's

Well, Joaquin Gonzalez walked on, showed up in the fall and by spring ball locked down the right tackle position. Eric Winston was a 250 inline tight end his freshman year and the next year he was a starting tackle. Nelson has been on campus now for 8 months. Maybe just maybe this kid can play. Seems very intelligent, hardworking, and by all accounts the 45 pounds has been good weight. I am cautiously optimistic.

You better stop making complete sense

Kid was going to App State, a I-AA school, and now is going to be starting LT at UMiami as a True Freshman. ******* Nuts

Talk about a diamond in the rough. Wonder if this was all searles or some GA buried in HS film tape who found him
App St hasn't been FCS for about 4 years now dude.

Who cares what Nelson used to weigh? He’s at around 285lbs now, that’s what matters. I’m not slinging false bravado, I’m just saying the starting lineup isn’t set in stone.

I understand maybe the OL talent level isn’t where it should be but the guys we have weren’t scrubs
They were 3 and 4 star players. We should be recruiting guys that can come in and compete for playing time as freshman. It’s not always a knock on the upperclassmen sometimes the younger guy is just better. So let’s support our players instead of always trying to knock them down.

Can we all take a minute to give props to coach Feely has our S&C program in better shape than it's been in a while
