Glad to hear Key’s weight is up to 184lbs now and that he is continuing to work on his strength, that of which is needed to fight for position and to out muscle DB’s for contested balls. Combined with his speed and we’re talking a much improved WR. For Nelson, I also love the talk coming out of him - that they must continue to improve and work as one, cohesive unit. We should see multiple players shine this season who are taking the reins during this open competition phase to win starters roles. By natural selection that means Poptart and Wigs will either massively step up their lack of game, or become relegated cheerleaders with Holley coordinating their sideline dance moves!!!

You can't look at those numbers and say it isn't flashing. Nor it is. Too little data. But it's certainly skewed and will experience regression to the mean. All it really says to me, at this point, is we've got a fast guy who hasn't played much and was able to get behind the opposing D because they weren't paying attention to him, or came late in games.

It's encouraging but doesn't mean anything.
I'll buy that.

I never wrote Nelson off. Why ppl expected a 270 pound freshman left tackle whos first game was against the Gators not to struggle is beyonnnnddddd me.
Kid was always a developmental recruit not some blue chip 5start but the skill was there just needed some time.
Glad to see him flourishing now.

Attacks the ball...hopefully, all our WR's start doing that. That and the strength comment are nice to hear. I can think of one play against Clemson where a current WR got muscled and outworked for a ball that turned into a pick. That should NEVER ever happen to a Canes WR.

Go Canes!
While you pointing that out, let's not overlook the poor decision making to go along with a poor throw. Throwing alley opp passes late, on that type of route was the main recipe for disaster, simple physics alone gives you the other answers. The better read was the back coming out of the backfield in one on one coverage after wiggins had cleared that side out, 1st and 10, in the type of game, when you trying to climb back in the game, **** poor decision making. Especially when the question had to be known and asked, what receiver on the that 2020 team has made a catch like that, put perry in the game!

Noted.

That throw in Question was a 1v1. You take that chance based on that not the fear of the worse. So no it wasn’t a bad decision but a good play by the DB and weak play by 8...Perry should’ve been playing over king?

Agreed. It's very encouraging. I don't understand how some people just don't get what many of us are so excited about when it comes to Keyshawn Smith. "He has 2 catches for 58 yards! That isn't flashing!" I have heard this take quite a bit lately and all I have to say is the following..........If you are a fan and watched us play last year and what you saw from Smith didn't give you the impression that he is talented with the potential to be an explosive playmaker at WR then you need to quit watching football and start watching figure skating. That is all.

Key word

He was a 2 year project at a minimum coming out so anyone criticizing off of his true freshman year is not in tune with reality. You saw the athleticism and he had everything you would want coming out of HS except size and experience. Well, he got thrown into the fire before he was ready and luckily, he was able to mentally handle it and is now much better because of it. The size has caught up and he's learning how to play as a 300+ OL. Wouldn't surprise me to see him take another step forward and be in the conversation for some All-ACC honors.

Not sure if I answered this, but to be even clearer, a point guard and qb are basically 1 in the same, if I'm a point guard and If I keep throwing alley oop's to a guy who has no hops or to a guy that has butterfingers, that's all on the point guard, so if you know anything about football, when you go back and watch that play, you'd understand more of what actually took place. In a game like that, if the score was tied, I wouldn't have minded that play at all, but in the position we were in, better to make the smart play not the hope play!

Agree that it was never Nelson's fault he was forced to start before ready. It was absolutely Barry's/Searels' fault they left the cupboard barren and Nelson was the best option.

Seeing Nelson move up the rankings from the worst LT in the ACC to mid-point last season to me was totally unexpected, I thought he would only be decent in his 3rd year. But his rapid improvement was impressive. And if he's really taking that 3rd-year next step, I am looking forward to seeing him this season.

Despite his amazing progress so far, and Greentree AA status, I don't get this early round hype. He's not done anything that leads me to believe he's at that level. Put Bama DEs on their asses, and then let's talk.

"According to Nelson, Jakai Clark and Jalen Rivers are competing at left guard next to him..."
????????????
Rivers will definitely win that job. If the Rivers and Clark are actually equal at this stage, Justice will play the younger, hard-working, more talented player because there is room for more extraordinary growth as the season progresses

Nelson is a physical freak and still very young. He’s also a very hard worker, which is the most important intangible for a lineman. I absolutely expect him to be drafted in the first three rounds after he leaves UM.
