May have missed this but how long was he at mizzou?

I was talking to Coach Richt's brother-in-law at the Glazier Coaching Clinic in Orlando last weekend and he was telling me about this. (NFL teams looking at Kool)

He said Kool ain't goin nowhere though. Said he loves coaching at Miami with Richt.

Now, Diaz, that's something to worry about.

I don't mind if we lost Diaz, I just want to keep the same attacking style defense period.

I would mind. He's awesome. I've seen him clinic. He's brilliant and he's full of **** and vinegar. The kid's love playing for him. He'd be a huge loss IMO.

A guy who teaches D-linemen how to get off blocks is more important than the guy that calls the plays and controls all 3 levels of the defense. LOL

totally agree w you on this. but, imo keeping kool right now is more important relative to rest of the staff. i'm on record since last season saying that manny is probably gone after this year (and for sure gone after 2018 season). he should be in line for a power 5 gig and he has to take it. from his texas days he already knows the feeling of dropping from hot HC name to afterthought.

kool is our best choice to take over the d cuz he has the same attacking philosophy and is extremely well respected. had he taken an nfl gig, we'd be in a tough spot if/when diaz bolts after the year.

It's about time we kept a good coach getting poached.

I love Kool and I think he's one of the best in the business but (believe it or not) there's actually other guys who can teach what Kool teaches. I've seen plenty of DL coaches and the good ones all teach the same thing. There's other guys you could put at DL coach right now and not see much of a drop-off. (if any at all)

You can't say the same about a DC.

Coordinating a defense is 100x harder than coaching a D-line.

The guy who can turn Missouri recruits into all SEC players, including a fruitcake and legit NFL players, is elite and the best in the game.

Speaking of Kool. Text from my buddy who's friends with Moten and Bethel.

1. Those kids weren't complete scrubs.
2. He is one of the best. That's not a question.

Still not more important than a DC. That's asinine.

Not saying it is but I don't believe there are many, if any other DL coaches that can go toe to toe with him

It's easy to underestimate defensive playcalling, but it's often times more difficult than calling an offense. Diaz was really good this past season, as evident by his very surprising second halves. Given the hand he was dealt, it was probably the best season of his career. The guy rolled in with 3 true Frosh LBs and an entire unit previously trained to play the exact opposite way he intends for them to play.

Like I've said, if he can find a Safety or two to add to Jaquan, the guy is going to have a ton of fun this year. In '16, he was often forced into things - blitzes, risks - to cover up coverage gaps between LBs and Safeties. With better LB pass coverage experience, all he needs are a couple Safeties who can get to spots better.

His continued challenge is to balance the blitz packages he loves with simply getting off the field. He did a truly masterful job against WVU. Hope that's only a glimpse of what's to come. I'm pumped to see our front 7.

15 years.

We should enjoy the time Kul and Diaz are here instead of worrying about the future.

This.
Enjoy them whlle they are here and quit worrying about their imminent date of departure.

Not worried just curious about prev tenure.....talk about reading too much into a question

It wasn't really directed at you with regards to the worrying, it was more directed in general to the folks who seemingly post about this on several Cane boards every week.

oh ok....I agree that too many people always seem to have their panties in a bunch about something. Kool seems to like stability so I will enjoy having him for his long tenure here. Hopefully he can retire after bringing home 6,7,8,9 and 10
