Miami lands one of the top 2027 QB's in the country, Israel Abrams

The Miami Hurricanes have landed their quarterback in the 2027 class, securing the commitment of Israel Abrams.



One of the consensus top three rated quarterbacks this recruiting cycle, the 6-foot-4, 190-pound Illinois native can zip the ball all across the field. He possesses an impressive combination of long levers and a quick release, able to manipulate his arm angles to fit throws into tight windows.

Those throws also come with significant velocity, exploding out of his hand on quick reads.

Abrams is 24-0 as a starter in high school, winning back-to-back state titles where in his junior campaign he threw for 4,072 yards and 40 touchdowns at a 68.5% completion rate.



Despite being relatively wiry at this stage, he’s showcased impressive pocket poise. Abrams consistently looks confident in the reads/throws he’s making as well as his ability to take a hit when it's needed for a big-time play.

Granted, I don’t believe Abrams will be one of those prospects that will simply “bulk up” upon arrival as it doesn’t suit his playing style. But a few pounds here and there could take his already advanced traits to that next level.

A main aspect of that sentiment comes from his ability to be elusive, adding onto his impressive throwing stats with ten rushing touchdowns last season.



With all his talent and national recognition, a fair question to ask is whether Miami will continue its trend of plucking one-year transfer quarterbacks following Darian Mensah’s expected departure if all goes to plan.

And while fans and pundits worry, Abrams understands the nature of the game, showcasing his impressive mentality heading into his collegiate career.

“I don’t want to transfer—that’s garbage, who wants to start all over again after everything you put in,” said Abrams to @DMoney following his visit on Tuesday. “If I’m going somewhere, it’s going to be a place where I can lay my legacy out and do everything I can to make the program better.”

Miami beat out the likes of Purdue, Kentucky, Auburn and Florida State for the Montini Catholic product — the Hurricanes highest rated QB commit since Kyle Wright in 2003.

Abrams becomes Miami’s eighth commitment in the 2027 class, joining five-star WR Nick Lennear as the headliners this cycle for the Canes. With plenty of more top-end recruits such as OT Mark Matthews, DE DJ Jacobs, LB Kaden Henderson and more having serious interest in repping the ‘U’, Cristobal’s 2027 class has the potential to be the best of his Hurricane tenure.
