If Mario goes 2-2 to start the year, there’s a chance he gets same fate. Likely? No, but people will be talking. He needs to beat ND week 1.

There’s no better situation than the one he has in front of him. Rivalry game at home, night time and the ONLY game on in America. Everyone will be watching. Time to stamp it.
What's Mario record in non-con ranked games? I tend to think he performs better there, but falls short on the trap/sleepwalk games.

EDIT: I would actually increase the sample to all p4 non-con games?

Appreciate the passion here but that Notre Dame game really won’t have any relevance when it comes to his contract here

I want to beat ND. Like any proper miami fan, I hate them.

Gotta go at least 1-1 vs. ND/UF.

Don't see the team not dropping at least 1 other game, so making the playoff starts to get unlikely unless you win the ACC. (Depending on other ACC teams performance)

We won't be where we want on recruiting and media until we go 2-0 vs them and win the acc consistently.

History says it’s a toss up, think it’s more so the magnitude of how he’s won them or who he’s beat that makes it seem better (not a single fluff Non-con game for Mario at either Oregon or Miami, 0 non-con P4 games vs losing teams).

100%, unfortunately I know that too 😂

I was talking Ls to ND and UF. 2-2 start in year 4 would get some people talking. Earliest Rio would be gone (if all goes wrong) is end of 2026.

Yeah trust me I’m with you emotionally brother

I’m also not even necessarily saying it’s “bad” that we are stuck with Mario for better or worse. Someone needed the time and resources to execute a plan here. I’m not an insider or anything but seeing all the people involved it seems like it would be a lot to untangle to get rid of Mario pending some absolute implosion

Agreed. Lots tied into it. I love Mario and I still think he’s the one to get it done. But an 8-4 season this year will get the seat hot.

Next year would be make or break (@SC, @ND, @Clemson)

The deep pockets will stay with him through at least next season. If he hasn't achieved by then, the money will dry up and it will take him a year to realize it's not coming back and resign.

Could be right though I don’t think he would ever resign. Let’s hope we don’t have to worry about this

I don’t think anyone could have predicted our defense last year even though there were concerns ahead of time

I am optimistic we beat NDs ***

3-2 for the regular season or 60%

Do you know if those reg seaon non cons were the first game of the season? I know UF was for us and TAMU I think were the second (2023) and third game (2022).

Thinking about Mario's preparation for a p4 non-con at the start of the year. This could also be too specific lol

I can't see him letting his work waste away. He does have an eye towards a legacy here. I'd bet he'd rather be the guy who stocked the cupboard than the one who bled them dry.

Auburn was week 1
OSU was week 2

His teams are always ready, lots of moving parts to dive into that specific for me lol

All I do know is, every first non-con P4 game of the year for Mario’s teams are either a W or a close loss. Never been beat by double digits.

Not sure where the ceiling is for Mario but I feel like we’ve already seen the floor in 2022

I hope anyway. Outside of major injuries I don’t really see a collapse
I don't see a collapse either. But whether we end up atop the ACC and in the CFP or spinning our wheels (Yay! 10 wins!) and not having anything to show for it is still up in the air.

I think we win against ND but drop some other BS game late. Mario's teams have played well to start. It late in season where we've had our hiccups. Even TAMU a couple years ago had a lot of us optimistic about how our team played. Then we faltered. Obviously, last year's opener against UF was a sterling display only to drop the ball against GT and Cuse late in the season.

He couldn't have hired a worse group of coordinators to start his staff. Gattis, Steele, Feld. Mario really pooped the bed out the gate
Spot on. This is where the people that keep blaming Manny and saying Mario had to rebuild lose me

It wasn’t some death penalty program where Mario had to find 100 walks ons and we could make an inspirational movie about it

Yeah Manny sucked but Mario made it worse with a tragic list of coaches and the 2022 recruiting class so he’s fixing his own mess not Mannys

Isn't this the first years where the top four spots in the playoffs are by rankings not guaranteed to league champions? If so, OOC losses could impact the prospects even if the ACC is won.
