South Florida Phenom Picks Homegrown Canes Over Elite Suitors

Miami Central High School's Armondo Blount officially announced his commitment to the Miami Hurricanes on Thursday afternoon. The five-star prospect is ranked as the #5 overall recruit in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. Additionally, he holds the title of the #1 player in Florida and the #2 defensive lineman in the nation.

Listed at 6-3, 250 pounds, Blount is a nightmare for offensive lines and quarterbacks alike. He has a similar play style to Hurricanes freshman Rueben Bain, but might be a bit lengthier than Bain. His commitment adds a blue-chip prospect to a 2025 class that recently added WR Waden Charles.

Miami successfully outmaneuvered perennial powers like Oklahoma, USC, Florida State, and Ohio State to land the coveted defender. This commitment suggests Miami’s momentum on the field could play a significant factor in recruiting moving forward.

Blount spent his previous two seasons at Dillard High School before transferring to Central for this year. He will be reuniting with former teammate Nyjalik Kelly, a current defensive end for the Hurricanes.

In terms of on-field production, Blount's numbers speak for themselves. He burst onto the high school football scene as a freshman in 2021, where he registered an eye-popping 13 sacks. He upped the ante in his sophomore season, racking up 16 sacks in 2022.

FSUs class right now is great because of their success last year. If we keep up play this year, with the way our staff recruits, we can easily have a top 3 class in the country next year
