The nation's No.1 linebacker, Kaden Henderson, headlined Miami’s visitors for its final spring practice ahead of Saturday’s spring game. A Tampa native who already visited for the Hurricanes “305 Day” last month, Henderson continued to emphasize how high the Canes are in his recruiting process with other top schools such as Texas A&M and LSU firmly in the mix. A 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker, the Tampa Jesuit product detailed his relationship with UM defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman and how impressed he is with the coaching staff. I caught up with Henderson following his visit, and here’s everything the five-star target had to say.

Takeaways from his visit:

“I think it was a great overall practice. The day before I came was the 305 Day, and that was really just for fun. This felt more like real ball, and that’s what I definitely wanted. I got to talk more ball with Coach Hetherman, see how he coaches, and see how the guys treated me.”

“There were a bunch of recruits here too, so I got to see that perspective. It was a high-intensity practice — I loved it. Guys were getting after it. Indy periods stood out with a lot of detailed things I haven’t seen at other schools.”

“Definitely made a great impression on me.”

On his relationship with Coach Hetherman (DC & linebackers coach):

“He’s a chill guy, but when he gets on the field, the switch flips. I love that. He’s going to get on you when you’re right, when you're wrong, that’s what you want as a player who’s trying to get better.”

“My goal is to get to the NFL, get to that second contract, and build a name for my family. I think Coach Hetherman can definitely do that for me. We’ve talked about a plan, and I’ve also talked to Coach [Taylor] a little bit about being off the edge and being used in different ways. Overall, it was a great visit, it definitely helped Miami a lot for me.”

On conversations with the coaching staff:

“Most of it was with Coach Hetherman. I think he knows what’s best for me, and I like his coaching approach. He’s going to keep pushing me and wants the best for me, but he also believes Miami can get me where I want to be.”

“Talking to Coach Cristobal, they mentioned they haven’t really had a guy with my stature who can come in and make an early impact. I think that’s the goal — for me to step in and make an impact early.”

On his relationships with players on the team:

“DeAnthony [Lafayette] is like my brother, people think we’re cousins. He’s pushing hard for me to come here, but he also wants what’s best for me. I’d love to team up with him.”

“Guys like Asharri [Charles], Jaelen Waters, and Kellen Wiley have all shown love. Kellen even posted about wanting to team up. There are also guys from Tampa like Canon Pickett, so it feels like a pipeline.”

“Being here feels like another home. I wouldn’t be far from my family, and there’s nothing better than playing for your state.”

Recruiting process and timeline:

“I’m still firm on my top five. I’m keeping an open mind, but my top five is still my top five. I’m taking visits and seeing what different schools can offer. I’ve got Notre Dame coming up, and I’m going to LSU as well to see how things are there.”

“My set announcement was July 1st, but I think I’m going to change that. I probably won’t commit before my official visits unless something crazy happens. I might move the date so I can do something more personal, maybe even a bigger announcement.”

Where Miami stands after his visit:

“Miami amazes me every time I come back.”

“The family atmosphere stands out — it feels like home. The coaches show a lot of love, coach Hetherman is a great coach — he’s a guru, that's a coach I want to play for.”

“Every time I come here, my interest just keeps going higher. I’m still going to take my time, but Miami is definitely a school I’m very high on.”

On what he’s looking for in his OV and fellow recruits:

“Coach Hetherman says the biggest thing is seeing real football during spring practice. Official visits are more about having fun and building relationships. I’ve been here a lot already, so it’s about continuing to build those relationships, talking with the coaches, and seeing the plan for me.”

“It’s also about connecting with other recruits and seeing if I can see myself playing with them. If everything lines up, we’re trying to bring a national championship back to Miami.”

Wouldn’t surprise me if the national guys are close to putting in a crystal ball to the good guys.

While the national media has still had him tied to A&M, I already posted that LSU is the leader. I won't be surprised if he goes ahead and commits to LSU on his OV next weekend when they start pressuring him at The Supper Club. It's been the same play for every big recruit for them. If he gets out of there without committing, I will feel better. Particularly, if he makes our OV which is last, I believe.
