Not many men walk away from a contract with 4 years left. I don't know what was agreed on behind closed doors, but I have the utmost respect for his decision. Many will complain he should have done this earlier, but I can't find many examples of coaches accepting defeat and stepping down.

Richt brought us out of the dark ages. We are a better program now than when he inherited. This was the furthest he could take us and he realized that. He’s a Cane and always will be. He is a man of God and did everything the right way. Thanks Richt. It’s the right decision for all

**** yea now its time for Blake to do his home work... consult with some NFL minds/ NFL minded people and bring in a real coach.

Shocking news although I’m happy about it.

My guess is that the administration was telling him to make some moves, including firing his son, that he didn’t want to make.

Thanks to CMR for making a very classy move. He looked spent and the offense just wasn't working. Recruiting was also beginning to suffer. He did a very classy thing stepping away from all of that money on his contract. We as fans should treat him with class in return.

I pray that we bring back Butch. He will get this program rolling immediately (starting with a strong finish in recruiting). He assembled the best team EVER in college football. With the right assistants, this would be a home run hire. Let's get back to greatness! BRING BACK BUTCH!!

My guess is his wife urged him to retire because she was tired of hearing negative comments every time she went anywhere. Cane fans can b W almost as brutal.as Philly fans

It’s not even close. Philly takes the cake. You give Miami fans too much credit.

At the end of the day him being a former Cane with blood ties to this program allowed him to step down for the betterment of the program. Any other ******* would've stubbornly refused to quit and kept stealing money.
