University School 4-star offensive lineman Marcus Tate is already emerging as one of the top prospects in South Florida for the 2021 cycle. Miami was able to get him on campus two Saturday's ago, and he likes what he sees from Manny Diaz so far.
“It's good. It's the new U. I was very excited to see what they were going to do. Manny Diaz is a really good coach. If he can get the whole team to do what the defense did last year, then they are in good shape. Really good shape.”
Tate spent a lot of time talking with the new offensive line coach, Butch Barry and it seems like Coach Barry was able to make a good first impression.
“I love him. High energy guy. NFL guy. He knows what it's like to be at the top level. It was a real blessing meeting him and talking to him.”
The pitch from Miami right now is pretty clear: you are our top guy and we want you to stay home.
“I am their top priority right now. That's what they are telling me every day. Make the crib great, be close to my mom. I love it there, but I am just taking my time with my recruitment.”
Miami is not the only school pushing for Tate right now. Some SEC schools are already involved for the highly-touted rising junior.
“Alabama, Auburn, Florida just came in the mix. Georgia and LSU too.”
Tate may have been on campus just a few days ago, but he is already looking to get back down to Coral Gables. Here’s what he said about returning to Miami for another visit.
“Probably very soon. I'm from here, so it's an easy trip to get down there.”
With that being said, the recruiting process is not Tate’s top priority for this offseason. Above all else, he wants to improve as a player.
“Getting stronger. Upper body, lower body, and getting my core right because that's one of the biggest things for offensive linemen. That's the biggest thing for this offseason.”
