Miami has secured its second commitment of the day, landing a pledge from local talent Jayvon Dawson.
A 6-foot-4, 220-pounder from Santaluces in Lake Worth, Fla., Dawson boasts some of the most impressive measurables in the country.
Those measurables drew comparisons to Kellen Wiley Jr. and Marquise Lightfoot for the Hurricane staff, who were impressed with his development this spring at only 16 years old.
In testing he’s marked a 4.6 40-time alongside a 38-inch vertical and standout shuttle metrics — highlighting his athleticism.
Dawson has spent time at both edge and off-ball linebacker throughout high-school, possibly growing into that jack linebacker role who can cause havoc in a style that Coach Hetherman prioritizes.
This past season Dawson racked up 68 tackles (22 TFL) and 8 sacks for his Santaluces side at the edge position. He gets off quick and strikes well in tackling, but development is needed with his pass rush moves.
It will be worth monitoring how the Canes plan to deploy him at the next level — my two cents is linebacker all the way with those traits.
The Hurricanes only entered the recruitment for Dawson earlier this month following the spring evaluation period, and moved in quickly on the three-star prospect. Momentum developed rapidly as he grew up wanting to be a Cane, leading to his timely announcement.
Miami beat out the likes of North Carolina, FSU, Purdue, Georgia and Georgia Tech for Dawson.
The Santaluces product becomes Miami’s 13th commitment in the class, becoming the Hurricanes first edge prospect in the 2027 class with committed linemen Ezekiel Ayangbile and Josh Johnson projecting more as tackles at the next level.
