Come on man. Be mad Reneau didn’t show up, but let’s be real. They’re the most efficient offense in America. They just ran through the B10 tourney, spanking Michigan. That’s a bad matchup for us.

Henderson locked up their best player, and they still shot over 50%. We stayed in the game bc of turnovers and offensive rebounds. We were never gonna go toe to toe with them when it comes to shot making.
Ya but miami absolutely had a chance today if reneau and Donaldson show up. They combined 10 for 30 from the floor and we still found ourselves down 4 with a minute to go when IMO we made the wrong decision to foul a team who couldnt miss from the line.

We had a chance to win the game and left a lot out there. We did not run into a juggernaut like UConn a few years back. We were picked by one pre game to win.

I'll always hate losing games we had a strong chance to win. It was a good season. A really good one. But I hate this constant just happy to be here that we have as a fan base. We were up at half and should have been up more to be honest. I agree with -- did you expect to make a fair tournament run 8 months ago? -- no -- but at half time today, yes, I felt we were a team that can win this winnable game with our athletic team.
They shot 53/57/95

Out: Salih/Kee/Reneau/Donaldson/Udeh

In: Gaskins

Stay: Dovrat/Timo/Marcus Allen/dante Allen/henderson/washington/maddox/Laboy

Portal: C (rim protector), stretch 4 (2 if Marcus Allen doesn’t return)defensive SG, Facilitator PG, C (with the ability to shoot from outside),

I honestly think Timo/Dovrat can improve with an off-season under their belt, they can both shoot and I’d expect the game yo slow down for them. Maddox/Laboy I don’t see leaving either.

There’s a difference in being happy to be here and living in reality. We had a chance to win bc we played way over our heads in the first half and our athleticism caused 7 TO’s. We were never gonna beat them playing their game and if they cleaned their play. The 2nd half was their game. They only turn it over like 9-10 times a game. It was always gonna regress back to the mean.

I mean it took a miracle close by Tre to beat Mizzou Friday night. That’s who we are. Not someone who goes toe to toe with Purdue. This team just can’t shoot consistently enough to win these games

And they’ll say they turned it over too much that gave Miami 10 free points, and Smith had his worst game of the season. And still won by 10. It goes both ways.

great season, and they hung tough and put a real scare into a team that was just flat out better than us. we need some plus shooters in a bad way, and hopefully nobody else comes sniffing around about jai. but no reason we can't be primed for a sweet 16 run with a good offseason. hats off to jai and the gang

Not sure why we foul smith down 4. But I get extending the game I guess
Because we'd have had 26ish seconds left down 4 if we got a stop which we didn't get many of those in the 2nd half. I liked the idea. We just sucked.

We still had the game within 4 with a minute left. We closed out the first half incredibly poorly for them to cut the lead to 2 and then had multiple bad possessions down the stretch in the second half. It happens, but this match up was not Prairie View against Florida.

Purdue focused on stopping Malik which means Tre had to play well. Tre did not play well.
It was a good game plan. Smart coaching there. As @JZCane0825 points out above, Reneau is finesse - and they likely knew they could frustrate him -- (because you can frustrate him) -- by the time he got clicking a bit at the end, it was out of sync between Tru, Henderson and Tre... Tru was short on his shots all night -- 3s and 2s.

Malik had a great season. But we just didn't get it done this afternoon on a few levels.

We are now back to being a tournament team. No reason for that to stop being true.

I guess good talented teams double up on Malik (and maybe today Tre) last few games and their awful stats show it (and Henderson got some good looks he capitalized.)Or did they just not show up again and are at best inconsistent in big games? I guess ya need 4-5 of that talent to really avoid that, and we had a chance even so. Still missing Dovrat. But great job by Jai and the guys this year.

Reneau has been involved in about 5 sequences that have halted any momentum we’ve had.
Is something wrong with him or does he owe a bookie? Dude was at the post game presser a complete mess bawling his eyes out still way after the game has ended.. Like snot bubbles and hyperventilating thru answering questions type stuff, not sure I have seen that before..

I think he tends to be more emotional in general? He got pretty emotional/teared up talking about what it means to play at home before the season started as well.

Yes, it was a smart game plan, but we needed Tre to step up and have a really good game. That would have taken pressure off Malik. Not that I care but we definitely exposed a few Purdue weaknesses. We dominated the offensive boards and shut down Smith. The difference was they got to the line 12 more times than we did and we were 1 for 10 in the second half from 3. A better 3- point shooting team beats them.
