Some thoughts:

* I prefer scout.com's star ranking scale the best. They use offers as a prime driver in their evaluation matrix. I like that. Its a function of what the market thinks of a recruit, not what some camp evaluator(s) think. Scout has him as a 2 star. THAT is what makes him and under the radar guy. The marketplace hasnt been all over him. (again its all subjective, but this is how I prefer to do it.)

* COach Golden seems to like the big wide receivers. He's shown that he will go after the 6'-4"+ wide receivers early and often. That is where he has gone after the lower star ranked guys. THat said, I havent seen it play out yet. If you look at our WR depth chart, D. Jones and J. Carter are at the bottom. Those are coach Golden's other two, low star, tall wide receivers that he went after early in the cycle. They're still young so it hasnt played out fully yet, but the early returns are that the big, low star wide receiver thing hasnt yielded any returns to date.

SFBayCane perhaps the low star rating is an indication that it will take those kids longer to be ready to contribute. As you say, they are young so it is still too early to reach a conclusion.

Scout's system makes the last sense because it has nothing to do with the player's ability and everything to do with who has offered him. ESPN has actual football guys doing actual evaluations not just reacting to offer sheets.

FIFY...

He's a 4 star on ESPN, I wouldn't really call him a sleeper. This board kind of sleeps on him because he is already committed and there is so much talent on the board. But anybody with any football knowledge sees footage like that of a kid 6'4 with those kinds of hands and athleticism. Its not a hard eval to make.

No one on this board is sleeping on the kid.....

Scout is the worst out of the 4 big sites IMO. Also, to mainly rank kids on offer sheets is ignorant. Game tape & in person evaluation are far more important. On Langham, he's an example of a kid that was ranked lower since he was reserved. His coach said he had offers from Bama, FSU (that was one reported), and a bunch of other big schools. No one really knew about those offers because Langham was pretty quiet pre-commitment. Langham was one of the top wr recruits on FSU & our board according to credible people. He was highly wanted, people just didnt know about him like others since he had a quiet recruitment. His ranking shouldnt be negatively effected because of it. Then another prime example is brad kaaya. Kaaya will most likely have two offers when he enrolls at the university of miami. By the time the final rankings are out he will be a top 5-7 pro style quarterback in the nation.

With Carter & jones, both are RS-fresh. They're expected to be at the bottom of the depth chart with our current receivers. You have to let them develop, way too early to say the guys are busts. Like you said, they're young. Jones is 6'4, but Carter is only 6'2. Herb is 6'2 and has panned out really well early on.

1. Brad Kaaya is a 4* on Scout and has offers from Miami and San Diego St. Scout has recruiting analysts at all the major camps like The Opening. They clearly use camp evals as part of their process.

2. Golden's first 2 WR signees were Phillip Dorsett and Rashawn Scott. Both of 'em are on the 2 deep and arguably our best WRs at this point. I think Golden is doing just fine with WR recruiting.

Its time for that kid DeMari Jones to come out from under that rock... but I knew he was a project coming in but if he doesn't do something he may be looking for a new school next year... because he will surely get passed up. I'm liking the idea of these tall receivers though... I really liked Jones' high school tape though... routing for the kid to male a splash.

He redshirted last year. WTF do you mean it's time from him to come out from under a rock?

He'll only be a reshirt freshman this year. Not all freshmen can be immediate impact players.

It's time for you to go back under the rock.

Great call on Jaelen Strong. I really liked that kid a lot. I was a big Jantavious Carter fan from the get go and Langham to me seems like a more polished version of that mold.

Whats funny is I still have this small weird feeling that Jontaveous can be a serious threat here one day. His size and athleticism are off the charts, it's just a matter of putting it all together I guess.
Jontavious is getting a lot of praise this off season... I think he will contribute a lot.

I'm in the same boat. I have a good feeling about him and hope he pans out because he offers skills that no other receiver on the roster really offers.
