Kamalu, Gilbert, and Renfrow All Cleared

Today UM officially announced the additions of Ufomba Kamalu, David Gilbert, and Justin Renfrow to the 2013 football team.

We first got word that Kamalu was in when a woman from UM's Football Operations staff tweeted this pic of him getting his gear from the equipment room:

This of course got everyone excited.

Then Matt porter of the Palm Beach Post noticed some guy wearing a 78 jersey at practice:

Shortly after that, UM's Official Football twitter account sent this out, along with an official press release

While Kamalu (classified as a Junior) is a JC transfer from Butler CC in El Dorado, Kansas, Gilbert (Wisconsin) and Renfrow (Virginia) have already graduated from their respective schools and will have 1 year of eligibility remaining. Big, big, big boost to the depth at Defensive Line.

Gilbert was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection last year. Renfrow is a big body at 6-6, 310 lbs. His career never really took off at UVA, but Golden liked him out of High School and even tried recruiting him at Temple. Besides, as Matt Porter points out, the added competition can only be a good thing.

**** of a job by Al Golden and his staff attacking probably the biggest need on the team post-signing day. They swung and missed big at that spot the past 2 years and they've done a great job adding these 3, along with Naim Mustafaa a few days ago.

Quick note:

Kamalu (albeit at JuCo) and Gilbert (at a D-1) had more Tackles for Loss last year than our entire team. Gilbert alone had almost half of what we produced.

Exactly. Jelani behind Luther. We just need someone to quickly slide into the plug role. Valentine is only going to be a Frosh, so it's JuCo time.

Agreed. Since Kamalu is listed as a Jr., I'm assuming he has 3 years to play 2. With that being said, I see Kamalu redshirting this year. No need to play him right now when we have Renfrow this year.

Isn't Stuckey a pretty big kid?

I agree though, think we need 2 JUCO DTs this cycle.

This might be the longest off-season I have ever experienced. Can't ******* wait for August 30th. The pieces The Don and Co. have put together for this season accompanied by the experience our freshman got last year is going to be a sight to see in a couple weeks.

I agree with Lu. With the departure of Porter and Robinson, we need Kamalu and Hamilton to transition into DT's, which seems very plausible. Stuckey, last I checked is weighing around 310 and if he EE's then he can probably be near 320 (Porter's size). In a 4-3 that would qualify as a "plug," I don't know about a 3-4.

Stuckey needs to be here in January. I don't know if that's the plan, but it's very important. I wish someone like Valentine would be here in January also, but that's unlikely as he's just working to qualify. Hamilton needs to continue to eat whatever the **** he's eating. Kamalu looks enormous. I just haven't seen him yet so I won't say much about him.

Kamalu has 3 to play 3. He redshirted his first year at JUCO. Gunter did the same. He was listed as a junior when he first was put on the roster as well.
