I hate to break it you guys, but I don't think this years Miami Hurricanes are winning another game. Yeah, I said it. This offense is broken, and they have a quarterback thatr can't be fixed.

Tonight Miami lost to 20-6 versus the North Carolina State Wolf Pack, in what was a defensive slog for much of this contest at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, to drop to 6-3.

But here's the worst thing about watching this years 'Canes. They have become dreadfully boring to watch. Yeah, I can handle the wins and loses, that goes with being a fan. I get that. But as my laptops were on the Alabama-LSU and Washington-USC games, I kept thinking to myself,''Look at those fun and entertaining offenses."

Alright, maybe there was some bad defense invovled (after all, it was the Trojans I was watching) but what I saw from those four squads was wide-open and imaginative systems, that also employed some tempo. They went up-and-down the field consistently and produced points. Whether you are a fan of any of those programs didn't matter, they are fun to watch.

Under Mario the Methodical, it almost seems as though the goal is to win every game 17-13, while winning the time of possession battle every week. Is it just me or does our current offense under Shannon Dawson seem like it plays 10 yards at a gime. The big plays we saw in September as UM rolled up big points and yards seems like a decade ago.

Now, to be fair, they have quarterback with the yips, who is now a full-blown turnover machine. Tyler Van Dyke in September was performing at an extremely high level. But since that Georgia Tech game, he has been a guy that simply can't protect the football. Every game since that point with him starting has felt a bit like the infamous '87 Fiesta Bowl.

Yeah, think about that, a whole month full of that game.

The defense for much of the game was dominating the Wolf Pack. Going into the fourth quarter they had all of five second half yards. Miami was actually controlling the game, but simply could not produce points. As Mark Fletcher (who played a strong game) was stuffed on 4th and one near the NC State goal line, you got the sinking feeling that it was the begining of the end.

The defense would proceed to give up a 98 yard touchdown drive to make the score 17-6.

It felt insurmountable.

Because it was.

I'm just a fan, but in my view I think Van Dyke's run as the Miami starter should come to an end. Realistically, given the depth chart (which features a true freshman, and another player who wants to be redshirted) that probably isn't going to happen. But no matter whatr Cristobal will say to the media, the team has lost faith in TVD, and the fan base is certainly ready to move on without him.

Cristobal preaches about being physical. To a point where some mock him for it (fyzical!!!). On nights like this, it's hard to argue with those detractors.
TVD is obviously still hurt w/shoulder issues. His body language during the game indicates a lack of enthusiasm, either from being hurt or he’s disgusted with the receivers/coaching/play calling...(all of the above?). You don’t just go from a high playing level in September to an interception machine in Oct-Nov. And, It’s pure speculation that the team has lost faith in him.

One of the litmus tests is always to look at what happens to the program the coach left.

Oregon is far better under an aggressive coach who wants to take your soul.

As you say, Mario seems to want a methodical offense that controls the ball. You referenced the ‘87 Fiesta Bowl, and if you played a reply of this game to someone in 1987 they’d think it fit right into their style of play.

I think next game they need to line up a WR in a three-point stance to really drive it home.

I went to a chicken stew last night with 100 people. Wore my U beanie. All the state fans there were just talking **** and I couldn't say ****. Bad enough my wife and brother in law are state grads.

But the mario bros think we are headed in the right direction.

that’s 100% what he wants and what we’re trying to do.

During the GT game he said during an in game interview we need to be methodical. Announcers during the GT game said Miami had been self scouting during the bye. Post game he said we have to be in control of the game so we don’t have to sling the ball all over the yard.

I don’t think it’s coincidence that since the bye we’ve looked like complete dog**** on offense. This has head corch tampering all over it.

Please don’t give Mario ideas

Well X is playing inline, next step is putting one hand in the dirt. We’re closer than you think.

before the season started, I predicted Miami to go 8-4 losing @ NCST, @UNC, @FSU, & some other home loss.

This was a classic look ahead spot for Miami right before the FSU game (which is essentially the Super Bowl for us). I bet NCST +6 and it was never in doubt.

Now I look for Miami to play GREAT but in another losing effort @ Tallahassee. Beat Louisville @ home & Close out vs BC
I had NC State moneyline, and I went to the **** game. Left right after that 4th and 1 stop. No way this team wins another game. This might be the first time since '87 that I won't watch the FSU game.

There were about 30 reasons to lose faith in Mario last night. Not trying to get AT LEAST 3 before half is awful. Having a slow *** offense that lets the defense stack the box just to run straight at them over and over is unwatchable. Then we have this QB that’s so obviously broken and we keep trotting him out there and putting him in the same situations. I’ve been a diehard for 35 years and for the 1st time I’m questioning why I invest so much time in this program. It’s just awful.

that was the worst ''two-minute offense'' Ive ever seen. Its indefensible...

Never saw Dawson at Houston, bring Tank Dell down as a 2nd Tackle but maybe he just likes how X blocks. I’m sure Mario had nothing to do with any of that

I believe we need a complete offensive overhaul in terms of philosophy/scheme and tempo. It goes far beyond just one player
It really is that simple of a decision.

It’s also probably the hardest thing for Mario to admit.

If he really wants to win so bad, he relinquishes full control in terms of offensive meddling. Just build the trenches and recruit fast skill players. Watch how easy it is in an open and constantly-moving system.

Cristobal is Sinatra - he does it his way

But the truly great coaches now how to adapt and evolve...
