The Miami Hurricanes defeated the FAMU Rattlers 77-7 on Thursday night. On defense, freshman defensive back JJ Dunnigan made his first career start against the Rattlers. He recapped his first start as a freshman down below:
On getting his first start: It meant a lot. It was a blessing. Obviously something that I prayed for, and the coaches having trust in me, it means a lot to me.
On his development since arriving at Miami: I think just making as many plays as possible, learning the playbook, trusting my brothers, and just doing everything to get better. If that means going to watch more film or doing more drills and things like that.
On his first two weeks of college football: I think it's been really fun. It's something I always dreamed of doing, so just to be out here is really a great opportunity for me, a big blessing. I'm ready for games to come.
On the freshman class making an impact: It's really exciting to see all my dogs in the freshman class making plays. Those are my brothers. I'm really excited for this class to see what we can do.
On the chemistry among the freshmen: That means a lot. I mean, these are guys that I see every day, and see Vance and Wingo and Javian score on the offensive side, even though I don't play offense, but it's still great to see and it gets me pumped up.
On transitioning from Kansas to Miami: I think it's important to just stay grounded. I have my faith in Jesus Christ, so really just trying to stay humble and do everything I can do to be better every day.
On Miami's defense not allowing a touchdown: That means a lot because that's our standard. That's something we want to live by, is keeping people out of the end zone, protecting the end zone.
