UM has officially signed North Carolina wideout Tyran Evans.

A 6-foot-4, 200-pound force on the outside, his hand catches immediately stand out on film both behind the defense and in short route situations.

And while an injury limited his senior season production, his full junior season shows the potential Evans has: nearly 30 yards per catch alongside 14 touchdowns.

Those short route catches make his 27 YPC even more impressive considering it's not all just deep routes, he’s able to make moves in open field when defenders sag off of him, a sentiment echoed by how the staff plans to use him.

And all of this goes without mentioning his ability to make the most of his size, able to high point contested catches at a high clip. He also uses his physicality well when it comes to blocking, with his competitiveness showing through with multiple highlight reel blocks on his film.

The staff absolutely loves his upside, especially the threat he poses with his size.

His Hough HS team plays for the 8A NC state championship next week. They shut out a strong West Charlotte team 24-0, who had beaten Myers Park (Camdin Portis' school) the week prior, to earn a trip to the finals vs. Millbrook (Raleigh). Note: this is the first year of the revised NCHSAA's new classification system, which moved from a 4-division model to an 8-division model.

Good take now we have Moore, Paris, and Evans as big long WRs. Add another one to the room next cycle.

Would seem like Jayden Petit and Tyran Evans were competing for the same spot. Either Petit didn't want to be here or the staff prioritized Evans over Petit despite Evan's lower senior year production.

Mario said they were recruiting Camdin Portis, ran into Evans and then immediately started recruiting him. From that timeline, it would seem like the staff prioritized Evans over Petit and/or pivoted away from Petit.

So has he been back for Hough's playoff run?
