Georgia offensive lineman transfer Jamal Meriweather commits to Miami

Miami needed to find a replacement on the offensive line after Markel Bell decided to head to the NFL Draft, and the Hurricanes didn’t waste much time doing it.

Another SEC body is on the way to Coral Gables.

Georgia offensive lineman Jamal Meriweather entered the transfer portal last weekend, and by Friday afternoon, he was committed to Miami. The former blue-chip recruit gives Mario Cristobal and his staff another big piece up front.

Meriweather took an official visit to Miami last Friday, just a week after entering the transfer portal, and it didn’t take long for the Hurricanes to lock in his pledge.

Meriweather is a 6-foot-7, 325-pound lineman who played in 12 games for Georgia, mostly in a rotational role.

Miami has been searching for size and depth along the offensive line, and Meriweather checks both boxes. He brings SEC experience, physical play, and competition to a room Cristobal has been rebuilding since day one.

Whether he ends up starting or rotating, the Hurricanes continue to load up in the trenches, and this portal run doesn’t look like it’s slowing down.

Merriweather will receive the best coaching he’s ever received by a mile. I view this one like Bell. Most people didn’t think much of the take then he got coached up now he’s gone. We’ve discussed this one in private and we both view Seaton as overrated , Leavitt for that matter too. I just wish we could add another quality body to feel better.

I may have missed it, but who do you see as the starters at OL? Do you like Samson sliding to tackle or do you prefer he stays at guard?

What makes him the front runner? Haven’t heard anything from him all last year in spring or fall practice. Didn’t get any noticeable PT this year.

He was impressive at practice although young . Playing time was hard beens guard was solidified and there was older guys getting burn. I’d be shocked if he’s not starting at guard. If not it’s Merriweather.

Why do you believe this team needs another offensive lineman? Do you not trust the guys on the roster? What position on the offensive line do you think they need to land?

Thats what I keep thinking. If Cristobal and Mirabal get thru spring and dont love the OL id hope that maybe an impact OL somewhere around the country will graduate and magically end up in miami for summer lol
