as bad and shaky as TVD is, the staff has to be willing to take some shots on early downs, because its plainly obvious that defenses are selling out versus the run..
Its a double edge sword. I want them to mix it up more. The whole first half seemed like it was run, run, pass. Tough to get into any kind of rhythm that way. But then, you watch TVD continuously not seeing defenders out there and you can sort of see why we are playing the way we are. I'm still inclined to say you have throw more early and get him in the flow of the game. Only throwing on 3rd and long is not a good recipe for success.

We will not survive with this slow conservative limited O, no matter who the QB is. If tvd is banged up and thats why they limited him, then freaking sit him until he’s fully healed. If he’s just lost his confidence, then freaking bench him. Our record, momentum in recruiting and program is more important than one player.

Imo. Roll with emory with more tempo and trust the kid at NCstate with a bigger playbook than clemson. And try to figure out if tvd is salvageable.

It’s called the Mario Cristobal effect.

This offense looks nothing like it did the first 4 games this season. They look worse with every passing week.

Mario’s fingerprints are all over our game plan. How do you keep on trying to run against 8 and nine men blitzing fronts? It’s sheer madness.

When we passed on 1st down, we had consistent success. Yet Mario insists on running on 1st down, 2nd down, and then that forces a QB that is already suffering from a lack of confidence into continuous 3rd and long situations. That’s a recipe for disaster.

No long passes downfield. Anyone telling me that we’re calling the same plays as earlier this season, and not being ultra conservative on s full of *****.

Given Mario’s track record with QBs, I don’t trust anything from his evals to recruiting.
What’s his track record?

He got a guy drafted Herbert who when he got to orgeon was a career loser and turned him into a winner and top draft pick. The knock on the guy coming out was his lack of a strong voice and leadership. Lo and behold in the NfL he’s a 4th quarter turnover machine and one of the most uncluctch QBs to in the league.

If anything you could make the argument that Mario knows when to the take the ball out of an unclutch QBs hands and how to build a balanced team around them, so they don’t self destruct.

Dawson knows what TVD’s issues are. He also knows how GT, UNC, and UVA have played Miami. What was working in the beginning of the season isn’t working now. Dawson is the key.

There are posters here who said we would go 6-6. Welp.
There are posters here who said we would go 7-5. Welp.

We are a 8-4/9-3 team and are playing like it and I’m okay with that. We can build on this. That GT blunder doesn’t look so bad after seeing how they did UNC last night.

I’m not happy with the win but I’m not going to apologize for it. Lol. We are about where we should be at this point in the season. We are a horrible coaching blunder from being 7-1. I’ll take it.

Well....a win is a win, right? But it has to be said, that the Hurricanes overtime 29-23 victory over the scrappy Virginia Cavaliers had a decidedly unwhelming feel even with the dramatic nature of the the game. Miami is now 6-2 but for some reason it doesn't feel as good as it should.

Perhaps because there is a realization that they escaped today at Hard Rock Stadium, and quite frankly, this team really didn't play all the well. And the offense especially was flat and uninspired.

You could say that an emotional letdown was expected after last weekends big win over Clemson but they were still playing at home against a 19 point underdog.

But hey, after last season -- and really the last two decades -- we should savor all the victories that come our way. Yet there is an elephant in the room that can not be ignored. Tyler Van Dyke has become a huge liability. After a strong start to the season, he is now a guy that seems unsure of himself as he releases the ball, and quite frankly, the fan-base collectively holds it's breath praying that these passes don't end up in the oppositions hand.

The offense which at one time was so dynamic and explosive, is now slow, lethargic, boring and unproductive. As Miami took a knee -- yeah, I know, I know -- to take the game into overtime, they had 27 seconds and all three timeouts. But to be frank, the staff simply doesn't trust TVD at this moment. And I don't blame them. I was actually relieved that they took this strategy.

And it was telling that in overtime, after giving up a field goal, that the Miami game winning drive consisted of three Mark Fletcher runs. The last one a highlight reel rampage from 11 yards that saw him shrug off one defender, and then keep his balance along the sideline to crash into the endzone. It looks to be the first of many highlight reel plays from the true freshman.

At this moment Fletcher looks like he should be the focal point of this offense for the time being. But the reality is that the vaunted Miami offensive line really didn't get that much movement upfront today. The Miami run game only produced 113 yards on 26 carries. What was frustrating to see was UVa crashing down defenders on early downs, and Miami not exploiting that with early shots downfield. But again, maybe Shannon Dawson understands what he has at quarterback.

Now, it has to be mentioned that Van Dyke is/was banged up, and there was a lot of chatter that perhaps he would be better served taking another week off. As of this morning, no one outside the staff really knew who would be Miami's starting quarterback on this day. Would Miaml have been better served going with Emory Williams once again?

For the day, Van Dyke was 20-for-30, 163 yards, and two interceptions. There was another throw or two that was perilously close to being picked off. You can absolutely make an argument that he should not be out there in his current physical state. The argument could be made that while it's easy to blame the players for their individual performances, the coaching staff that keeps throwing them out there bear some responsibility too.

Regardless, Van Dyke wasn't very good, fortunately he got bailed out by the likes of Andres Borregales and Fletcher.
Good stuff. The only thing you got wrong was that Miami only had 2 TO's on the last drive before OT.

How big of losses do you think it will be losing mesidor and Kelly on the DL? We don't have that great of depth to begin with. I guess we will find out what we have in some of the freshman.

At this point, I feel like our fanbase is behaving like a woman taken out of poverty by a wealthy man and now she’s ungrateful and demanding. Like, did you not forget where you’ve been brought from lady????

Should CIS feel toxic after a W? No

Was the win uninspiring? Yes.

We’re behaving like Bama fans when they barely beat USF……well guess what gents? WE ARE NOT BAMA. We need to appreciate that these kids are being taught and developed on learning how to win.

We’re coming across like we have had wins vs A&M and Clemson, IN THE SAME SEASON, and still technically having control of our ACCCG heading into the early November games.

We all knew this team was a 7-9 win team depending on breaks and bounces….TVD is struggling but we still found a way to win…

And guess what, when the CFP committee meets on Monday or whenever this upcoming week, don’t be surprised if we’re sitting inside the Top 15-20 teams.

On to NC State….

Love this kid, what a great attitude, all smiles and the killer instinct all built in to one **** of a baller. SO FLO all the way…

I didn’t see any motion plays or end arounds. Seems like they are limiting the plays on our offense and just trying to out-physical opposing defenses. Maybe it’s due to TVD’s injury and Emory’s lack of experience but that won’t win the tougher games left on our schedule.

To all the folks ripping the lack of vertical play calls, go back and watch the drive that ends in TVD’s first pick. It was a very run heavy drive. The last play had Breshard in at tailback and I believe there was some motion or play action with him and X was open for six deep left. TVD underthrew it by five yards and it was picked. No points. Momentum busted.

TVD was off on many other passes also. That said, his poor play should’ve resulted in him sitting. Why they didn’t yank him I don’t know. However the notion that the coaches needed to keep going vertical seems a little absurd given that Tyler was still in and playing like mierda.

The real question is why did the corches leave TVD in the game, not why didn’t they make more vertical pass calls.

He inherited Herbert. Wasn’t like he brought in some kid he recruited. Look at the next the guy he brought in that he recruited. Dude was ***.

The GT blunder will always look god awful and be a stain on Mario. Them performing well now has nothing to do with a boneheaded decision coasting the players a game.

With TVD’s arm strength in question, I’d love to see our TE used in the short pass game more often. Or at least make them stretch the middle of the field and then get the ball to our playmakers (Restrepo or Brashard Smith) on some underneath routes.

However, I don’t like the sample size I’ve seen with our TE plays (poor route-running, dropped passes, whiffing on blocks, running in motion into the RB) and they just aren’t trustworthy.

I’m missing all of the successful plays made by Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory.
