Five-Star CB Donte Wright Commits to Miami

Just days after finalizing their secondary staff, the Miami Hurricanes have made a major splash at the cornerback position, flipping five-star Donte Wright from Georgia.

An elite defensive back who has all the tools to be special at the next level, Wright is one of the consensus top cornerbacks in the 2027 class.

A 6-foot-1 corner, Wright excels in man coverage, completely taking away an opposing team’s number one option.

His high school stats reflect that, with very little attempts going his way as he puts receivers on an island.

The California native sticks to receivers with impressive footwork, matching routes well as he fluidly moves his hips across the field.

Wright was committed to UGA since last summer, but other schools such as Miami and Oregon remained squarely in the mix for the Long Beach Poly product.

The Hurricanes began to surge following his weekend visit in March, where Wright left impressed.

“I always had high expectations of Miami, they just reached all those expectations, I feel Miami is a big contender for sure in my recruitment,” said Wright.

“I would say I fit in perfectly. Talking with [Hetherman], he told me that he's trying to get into more man coverage and press coverage.”

Plenty of concern was expressed at the lack of certainty in the secondary room following the loss of Zac Etheridge and the lack of a named secondary coach.

But following the announcement of Terry Jefferson as corners coach and the elevation of Will Harris as secondary coach, the Canes look set to continue on the trail.

Wright becomes Miami’s eleventh commit in the 2027 class, joining local talents Sherrod Gourdine and Jaylyn Jones in the secondary room.

Donte Williams in theory is a good recruiter but he hasn’t landed many top Cali players. I’d expect Kirby to upgrade in the offseason

Must stay on top of this. I don’t know much about this brother, & frankly like I’ve told others I’ve been hella out the recruiting scene this cycle. I literally don’t know the vast majority of these kids, & all I am is a humble, casual star ***** this cycle. I’m going to try to catch up w some of my ppls at Bosco, Centennial, Mater Dei, Wilson, & Poly this season over some bread & games, but looking at my schedule, man if it ain’t about business, this yr is pretty sewed up. ****, I’m missing my own family reunion this yr b/c of scheduling conflicts.

I’ll try to keep my ear to the pavement, but this cycle I’m BBQ chicken except for one kid who I personally knew via my little homie.

Absolutely, I don’t like the **** on everything mopes and me and the other maudes have actually banned a few because they’re so miserable thread after thread that they ruin the board.

The ordinary MarioBro slurpers and regular run of the mill mopes are fine. They simply have different opinions and ways of looking at things. Theres a couple of **** on everything mopes of the past who no longer do that as well. They no longer count in the group you’re talking about. It’s a limited group and ordinarily when they act out, the board deals with them adequately in my opinion. If they come into a commitment thread and start ripping Mario for missing on something unrelated, if the board punishes them enough, personally I’m fine but we can look at purgatory too. There’s a leftover group of slurpers who are fighting ghosts.
