The nation's No. 1 recruit in the 2028 football recruiting class spoke with CanesInsight this afternoon, giving an update on his recruitment, including where the Miami Hurricanes stand among the programs pursuing him.
Five-star cornerback A'Mir Sears out of Christopher Columbus has been active on the recruiting trail this offseason. Of course, being the nation's No. 1 recruit, just about every school is going to call his phone. He currently holds 46 total offers.
According to 247Sports Composite Rankings, Sears currently ranks as the No. 1 overall player in the class of 2028. Sears is also considered the No. 1 player out of the Sunshine State. A two-way player, Sears lined up at both wide receiver and cornerback for Christopher Columbus this past season. On offense he hauled in 42 receptions for 942 yards and 11 touchdowns. On defense he accomplished three interceptions and 11 pass breakups.
I sat down to catch up with A'Mir about where the Hurricanes stand in the process, along with other schools in the mix.
"[Miami is] high in my recruitment, of course," said Sears. The 6-foot-1, 160-pound two-way standout also stated that just about every school in the country is pursuing him.
Sears noted that he has a deep connection with Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes coaching staff. Since Sears is from the South Florida area, he has built a great bond with the Hurricanes coaching staff, including Coach Terry, Coach Will Harris, and Frank Tucker.
"My relationship with Coach is great. I've known [Mario] for a very long time. Coach Terry and Will are the same too. They are great people. Of course Frank Tucker and Joe are my guys," said Sears.
Sears is in the middle of setting up his official visit list. He tells CanesInsight that he's not sure if he will visit Miami or not. He has already been on the Hurricanes' campus six times.
"I'm setting up a summer schedule right now. [I'm] not sure yet."
