Miami 2017 defensive end commitment D.J. Johnson is a name that fans have come to learn very quickly. A top-10 ranked player at his position, Johnson flashes all of the physical tools on tape to blossom into a star at Miami -- especially if the progression we've seen in the Canes' defensive line holds true.

Isn't Johnson already in the 250+ range? I think his future is at tackle a la mcintosh

Or maybe we don't blow the kid and just make him more explosive.

I think a move inside is quite possible. His explosion and athleticism inside would be a nightmare to handle for Guards and Centers. I think he could be more 280-285ish with his frame. He isn't as long and wiry as Chad was at the same age.

Think Garvin, Ford, Johnson, Jackson as the DL across the board. wow

Agreed. I don't know how explosive he is, though...is he a 4.7/4.8 kid?

In my mind, one DE is in the Chad Thomas mold (if you can find them) but I want my other DE to be the 240-250 pound 4.6 speed rusher off the edge.

In my mind, one DE is in the Chad Thomas mold (if you can find them) but I want my other DE to be the 240-250 pound 4.6 speed rusher off the edge.

He's already 245 and by all accounts at paradise he has a frame that's an M&M away from 270.

You don't really have to push the envelope with him. If his ceiling is 270 with insane athleticism, that's quite a weapon as well.

I see DE all the way. This kid is too explosive off the edge . He has the speed from these clips that you can't teach from a guy his size he's running down RBs !!

Kid looks good. Playing our old defense is going to attract the recruits Al just could not get. Kool's attack and Diaz's violence will be a lure hard to resist. Winning will make the lure impossible to resist. There cannot be many kids who would not love to play on a team like THE U of old. Miami is on the verge of being the hot place again. We need to beat FSU.

If he's 240 plus he'll put on 20 his 1st year. I think our days of 270 lb d ends are over.

WOW! SMH...His get off is next level elite and he has incredible speed! He and Joseph Jackson will make an incredible tandem in 2018. Keep studs at DT, Speedy LB'ers and with the Secondary we putting together, we got an amazing defense.

We will be a legit 6 deep at DE next year. Thats QUALITY depth too. (CThomas, DJax, THarris, JJackson, DJ, Patchan) Thats not even including Gavin who just might have to RS if he doesnt pop right away. I see why they are slow-playing bringing on another DE. (Carney shouldnt be a take...I like Wrights potential but if his mind starts wondering while waiting his turn he might just start playing BBall.)
