I wish Mario wouldn't be here for spring practice
rooting for the kid. He may have a ceiling but consider the circumstances of the snaps he has gotten I am not down on the guy longer term. put his body on the line for a must have first down and paid the price, respect for that!

Williams is such a baller he doesn't use laces to make football more challenging.
It's like playing DOOM in Ultra-Nightmare mode because otherwise it's just too easy.

not uncommon in football now. especially since everyone is in the gun nowadays, and not receiving the ball from under center. (I think @Memnon mentioned in one of his posts about Emory not being a pure laces thrower).
remember, emory won the elite11 accuracy award a couple of times, and has shown that same ability in his time here.
if you can be accurate, without having to be a laces thrower? you have a BIG advantage in ball handling, and speed in getting the ball out of your hands when getting it in the gun.
and from that photo I will tell you a couple of things: he has large hands which helps (both for a laces thrower and one who is not). also, his grip on the ball is pretty sound in that shot, although I would need to see his fingers to be sure, so I'm hedging just a little.
But I can tell from how the space (the "valley") between his palm and the football is formed, that he's not overly squeezing the ball, and he doesn't need the laces to keep the proper balance between a firm grip and an easy one, to maintain stability in his grip through the throwing motion. his thumb is also well positioned on the ball. see how it's pointing towards 12 noon? that's good mechanics right there. if it was pointed towards 11 o'clock or 1 pm, we'd have a problem
the throwing grip is a lot like holding a golf club. you can't squeeze too tightly, or things go off the rails. it affects, spin, accuracy, and velocity. as far as his grip goes, he looks pretty good there.

Aikman didn't use laces the traditional way, at the finger tips. He put his palm over them. Not a lot different from this.Seriously though, how does he do this? How does someone get this far as a QB and not use the laces?

That Sir is food for thought. He’s GD 19 yrs old. Still has some residual growth spurt left. Channel that in the weight room and diet, could be fuccin. He’s got the leadership down. Can’t substitute a year of growth and learning with spring practice. A portal QB, is a given, why not two. RS, this kid. Is Mario going to get him ready w/spring practice and abandon a portal QB. Why bring in a QB? To back up a kid? F**k no, RS Emory. Go hard in the portal.

Yikes… when I was 18, it was X-ray School or Vietnam. I’m still here upright and working. So, a Redshirt should be a no brainer. Life’s a marathon. Learn how to perspire and persevere.
