Eaford fulfills promise to late father, commits to Canes

2021 Hialeah WR Fred Eaford went from unknown recruit to intriguing prospect in a matter of hours this weekend. He landed his Miami offer on Sunday after putting on a dominating performance in the UM 7-on-7 tournament on campus in front of the coaching staff. Today, Eaford found himself back on campus on a private visit with the coaches that was a bit more personal, and he decided to fulfill a promise to his late father by committing to the Canes.

“Miami has been my favorite team since I was little, my dad always wanted me to go there,” Eaford said. “He had passed, and I had promised him that if I had the opportunity, I’d go to Miami. When I committed, I was happy, it felt good.”

During camp, Eaford’s multiple touchdowns and acrobatic catches caught the attention of the staff and crowd alike, and his efforts were the main reason the underdog Hialeah squad ended up making a run to win the tournament.

“It was good, we won it all,” Eaford said of the camp. “I was just doing my thing.”

After his standout performance, the 6-0 160 pound receiver was personally offered by Manny Diaz, and he got to chat up the head coach for a bit.

“I’ve met coach Diaz before, he had come to my school one time and saw me,” Eaford said. “I think he’s going to do great this season and he’ll be good for the program.”

While Eaford has yet to meet any of his future 2021 classmates at Miami, he is friendly with a UM commit from the 2020 class.

“I know Justin (Hodges) from Western,” Eaford said. “Our relationship is solid.”

As the younger brother of 2019 Oregon LB signee Ge’mon Eaford, Fred played JV at Deerfield Beach last season and transferred to Hialeah in the offseason due to the Bucks’ crowded receiver rotation. Following his next two seasons at Hialeah, Eaford plans to come into Miami and play early.

“I’m just trying to see the field and get some playing time,” Eaford said of his freshman expectations.

Eaford will also attend Paradise Camp this weekend. He posted a 4.72 40 time, a 4.84 short shuttle, and a 28.50 inch vertical at the Opening Miami Regional in February. He chose UM over offers from Indiana and Louisville.

I was vocal about his brother. But short sighted in my part considering it was cmr’s first year after that abortion at the rock where goldie locks looked like a schoolboy that just had his lunch money stolen.
I think he made that comment as a 15-16 year old on periscope at a time where a lot of sofla kids felt the same way and obviously some still do.
In saying that however, I hope this young man ain’t writing checks that he can’t cash.
Hope he’s solid cause he’s bringing in a new element of thread pages if he doesn’t stick.
It won’t matter if he’s 16 or not. But gotta give it up to him for believing in himself working hard and having the cojones to put his story out there and pull the trigger.
Welcome to the U young man!!
