DT Jared Goldwire update

Last week I posted that Miami was feeling confident about their chances with JUCO DT Jared Goldwire and had locked in on him as a junior college target. Goldwire has been a tough guy to get in contact with, but Fort Scott Head Coach Kale Pick gave me some additional info on Goldwire’s recruitment this morning.

Although he has been committed to Louisville since June, Goldwire does not have a visit set for this weekend. This would be his final opportunity to take an official visit because his coach confirmed that he is set to enroll early at the school of his choice. He is planning to sign on December 20th as wel.

Pick said that Goldwire is “on the fence” with Miami and Louisville, however he added that him and his staff have been very impressed in the way the Miami staff has recruited the defensive tackle. UM sources said that Goldwire’s official visit for the Notre Dame game was as good as I‎t could have been.

Update: Miami does not expect Goldwire in their 2018 class.

DJ did not have a quiet recruitment lol...he took his visits and there were countless rumors about him and a few west coast schools.

The guy is a great coach but you're just rewriting history to make his recruiting this year look better. He went after highly sought after guys (Vincent, Trout, Davis, etc.) but got beat out. He's still after Thompson who is a top 100 prospect but he appears to be a long shot as well.

Given his credentials, the production on the field, and the school he's recruiting for, I'd say his recruiting here so far has been underwhelming: Jackson was already committed prior to his arrival, Johnson apparently has Cane family and actually contacted him, and Silvera/Garvin just needed offers.

With the very likely possibility of losing the top 3 DT's on the team this year, a three man class including Goldwire (coming off knee injury; competing against Louisville, Oregon State) and Carson (project) isn't the amazing haul some are trying to make it seem.

Not panicking, but can you explain to me how at this point "we good" at DT? As I pointed out above, the two most likely additions are midlevel prospects who may not be early contributors - and it's not like they are even strong leans at this point either. With the potential turnover at DT, you'd like to be in a much stronger recruiting position this late.

Guys are freaking out about certain DB recruits when there are multiple great prospects already committed, yet all is quiet at DT where there's just one commit in December lol

Retarded. Typical star *****. Rj mcintosh and Norton were mid level prospects as well. **** rj was barely a 3 star. Lol.
We only need two kids, silvera and goldwire. A third would be ideal but not necessary. Carson is an elite dt/de prospect , his value lies in his flexibility. Thompson is also elite so is Briggs.

With kul every kid in the 3 deep is a legit nfl prospect.

Until proven otherwise, I will have full faith in Kool and his process.

Not much he can do about RJ and Norton leaving early. If they stay then our depth this year is a dream. Kool is a master of development so chances are a few guys already entrenched in the program (Bethel, Willis, Ford) take big strides next year. Factor in a talent like Nesta and that's the 2 deep right there.

If we bring in 5 DTs that are Freshmen or transfers will that really make you feel that much better about immediate depth? We still have a few months left in the process. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a grad transfer too that comes out of nowhere. Let it play out.

Briggs isn't coming. Might as well take him off the list right now. That being said, if I was a bookie, the over/under for us right now would be 2.5 DTs (Silvera + Goldwire and/or Carson + an outside chance at Thompson).

We're worried because of quality depth. Not every single DT that Kool comes across goes onto the NFL. Tyreic Martin wasn't even in the rotation this year after 2 years in the program. Landing multiple 5 stars and high 4 stars likely won't happen. But to criticize fans for being a bit concerned is irrational.

Bethel- plenty of experience
Ford- some experience
Silvera- arguably the best dt in the country (19 tfls 15 sacks as a senior)

Carson- 6’5 285 in the mold of RJ McIntosh

And the big dends who can move inside on certain downs

The struggle we have recruiting DT is a huge hint that bags are being dropped.

I'm not one to cry about recruits being paid - but when one of the best DL coaches in the country is recruiting you to play in Miami and you go elsewhere, you have to question what's going on behind the scenes.

I'd guess that elite DTs get paid the most money on the recruiting circuit, cos HCs know you can't win without some good ones inside.
