DL Daylen Russell commits to Miami

Daylen Russell, defensive lineman from Columbus and one of Miami-Dade County's most productive defensive players, has pledged to play for the Miami Hurricanes. Russell chose Miami over Louisville and Nebraska.

Russell, who stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs 270 pounds, marks the ninth commitment to the Hurricanes' 2024 recruiting class, and he is the fourth player from South Florida to join the roster. He is the reigning Miami-Dade County Defensive Player of the Year and was instrumental in leading the Explorers to their second state championship last year. Russell recorded 62 tackles, eight tackles for loss and eight sacks along with a standout performance in the state title game.

Russell joins three-star running back Chris Wheatley-Humphrey, four-star wide receiver Chance Robinson from St. Thomas Aquinas, and three-star Central linebacker Vince Shavers as 2024 commits from Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

Russell’s commitment is yet another tie between UM and Columbus High School, the alma mater of Mario Cristobal, offensive line coach Alex Mirabal and general manager Alonzo Highsmith.

Also do we have the official measurements for him, I thought Gaby and maybe some others just got a look at him.

Yeah, but that’s a tape thing. I can see those traits/ lack of on his tape. I was just wondering if we had confirmed in person measurements of height and weight

What's to hate with taking a flyer? If he blows up, you got in early. If he doesn't, no harm done and the DL class is still on track to be elite.

Not disagreeing, but can you provide any examples of players that he dropped that he also directly recruited.

I think this tells us (again) that we are looking to take a BIG *** DL class. Let's say we get visits from say, eight 4 or 5-star DL and hit on three of them. Or ****, let's be generous, lets say we get 10 visits and hit on four of them. Those are very, very successful hit rates.

What if we want to take say, 6-8 DL? There has been unconfirmed talk that we want 4 DT's alone.

If they like this kid, if they think he will be a valuable addition to the program, then we're pretty much talking about him only having to be the 8th best DL or worse that we can land before it becomes a mistake. We want numbers. We NEED numbers. There is no way we're getting enough highly ranked (ugh) prospects to fill a massive class like this. Think of him as Frankie or Tripp.

It's crazy to watch how triggered some people get here. Just zoom out and give it a think and there is usually a way to make sense of it all.

Ill take solace that he has some long arms. Same thing i saw on Wayne and Kinsler. Im not gonna blow one over this chap and everyone has a basis to question the take. Ill just wait and see. Maybe he is a one of Golden era words.....coal shoveler lol.
