Should have stopped right there.

Nah. That was more for the dudes here who, no matter what concern is raised on this board, say "Dude, we're fine" as we limp to 6 win finishes year after year. It's eyebrow raising to have this many dudes miss a scrimmage. Without question.

I can’t say whether we are fine or not, but I don’t see a big conspiracy here.

Unless somehow you’re saying that we’re going to limp to six wins because of an unprecedented number of injuries.

I don’t think it’s a conspiracy. Unless you want to call UM’s notoriously ridiculous dealings with injuries a conspiracy. But I don’t think a kid like Amari Carter is sitting out a fall scrimmage, especially the first fall scrimmage, because of a bruise. And he ain’t the only one. Sounds like there were half a dozen or more kids who didn’t participate. Someone like Brevin, I don’t love it, but I get it. He’s coming off an injury and you know what you’ve got with him when healthy. He’s your starting TE, period. A kid like Carter, if I’m in his situation there’s nothing that’s keeping me off the field because Bubba Bolden might snatch my job anyway, but he certainly is if my *** is parked over with Vinny getting a rub down.

I know it's only 1 scrimmage and it's nothing to really pay too much attention to, but I've been around the game and studied it for a long time. It's not normal to have so many kids not participate in scrimmage #1. There is usually a ton of anticipation around the first scrimmage. Now, I will say, that's in normal times. Covid certainly has things moving slower than usual. But I was pretty surprised to hear so many guys didn't go on Sunday.

Just wondering if there's a little bit more to it than he's leading on. Scrimmage #1 goes a LONG way towards determining your starters. Someone like Amari Carter, for example, he is locked in a **** of a battle for his spot. He knows it, the staff knows it. I find it very strange that he'd be held out of a live scrimmage for a bump or bruise. I'm not saying he's seriously injured. But kids trying to lock down spots don't sit out the first scrimmage of camp for fun. Some of these kids have to have something somewhat significantly wrong in order to skip a scrimmage entirely. We have a football game in 15 days. It's go time.
What about this season is normal? The whole thing is rushed and if keeping a few out because of bruises means we're more prepared, then so be it.

I see your point. But jobs are still being won and lost.

That scrub maybe our starting LG this season. And for the record, Campbell was arguably worse than Zion last season. I know it was his first game against UF. But it was the worst performance I’ve ever seen from a starting UM tackle. It wasn’t just bad play either, it was bonehead false starts. He must’ve had 3-4 alone that game. To say Campbell has a lot to prove would be an understatement. Maybe the new scheme, coaching and year in the weight room pay off. Hopefully he can sweep last year under the rug mentally as well.
If Swiss cheese Zion is are starting guard this year then we’re in trouble! Luckily your wrong as it looks like Traore is gonna be our starting guard along with Scaife. Thank god manny is smart enough not to put His job on the line by trotting Zion out there again. I’d expect a redshirt for him just to get him on a level wEre he can contribute at a depth leveL. He’s not a starter at any level and will be blown by in The depth chart by walker, rivers and big baby.
