Diaz provides more scrimmage context, key roles close to being set

I wasn't pulling my concerns about it out of thin air...

What we need to hope for is that we get a stronghold on that position because while the Left side of line is usually looked at as being more important, the Right side particularly RT is a key position where you need to have stability.

I'm hoping either the light comes on & Campbell steps up, or they decide to move Scaife to RT.

And for the record I've got nothing against Herbert, he's a good kid & works hard, I just don't think he's ready to be the full time starter at RT. In fact, I've always felt he was much better as a Guard than a Tackle coming out of HS, because he's a solid run blocker, but his pass blocking is atrocious.
Honestly, that should be a wrap on the discussion then. We simply cannot start a guy at RT who is "atrocious" at pass blocking. I trust Diaz and Enos see the same thing.

Manny needs to just trot the starter on the field - and don't say nothing to nobody.

It will be like Christmas morning! Surprise!

Can’t keep it secret. Someone will find out who is taking all of the 1st team reps over the last two weeks.

I disagree with this assessment. Here's why, Diaz was in control of half of the team during CMR's tenure. He knows all the players and has recruited most of them. Diaz said when he came in and again in year 2 that "year 3 would be the year when we have the depth to compete at a high level." Guess what, this is year 3.

Maybe my math is wrong. But for Diaz on D, this is year 4, not 3. His defense did perform very well in year 3

For Manny on O, this is year 1.

Call me a pessimist but I’m thinking this thing is going to be a work in progress. Not quite ready for the crocs so early in the season
Wow!!! Dude really, we were favored
To beat LSU last year and look what happened. This is a new year bro grow some.
.

I wonder if that is a reference to QB ball placement. There is a universe of difference between a QB who throws a catchable ball and a QB who leads the receivers. Both show up as completions on the stat sheet, but one of them matters a **** of a lot more.

Good point. And, what plates were called? At that high a completion rate I’ll assume short passes. And good tackling by the defense.

Butch gave GOOD interviews, and was mighty honest about things -

I think the only thing he let go of intentionally and said nothing of - was his first thought to kill Sebastian for participating in the end zone score - and costing UM a fifteen yard penalty on the kickoff - with time still left on the board.

Look - if you guys weren't around - go find your own videos or accept some things those of us who were around mention.

But to come and post, "You got video or some kind of recording?" sounds like you don't have a clue - and likely, no recording will bring you up to speed.
Well said!

Diaz and Barry’s hesitance/reluctance to move Scaife to a OT position is a sign that the inside combo of Scaife, Gaynor and Donaldson is creating running lanes up the middle and between tackles especially. He is smart enough to continue giving the team’s OTs all the reps they can handle all the way up until game day when he can turn to a trusted Scaife if need be. Of course, he isn’t telling the OTs this, he wants them to own this opportunity and rise to the occasion. There is no safety net. It’s Campbell’s time, he stalemated several dlinemen during Big Cane as he has been targeted by Feeley and Diaz to make a big jump in development. I think he responds to this **** Week bump up the depth chart.

Deejay, Cam, Burns and Lingard are going run all over the gaytors if that interior lineup plays this first game.

"We will be okay we have to be better than okay" says Manny. Ya think he is feeling the pressure.
"We saw some good plays in the scrimmage but then a bad play. We need the oline to get good fast" " we need more Alpha dogs we need more leadership "says Dan Mullen
Body language shows Manny to be concerned but Dan looks a little unsettled himself.
Have to wait another week to see what is what plain and simple.
Edge obviously the gator has a more polished offense. But the Canes have the edge with a experienced corps of linebackers. Plenty to work on before a prediction can be made. Both scrimmages have not in any way given true confidence to either coach.

Neither HC is going to go out on a limb and declare his team ready for 8/24. We’ll be spoon fed this narrative for the next 3 weeks which is fine, I don’t want Mullet Moron or his sidekicks to have any leeway into what we’re doing he k even who’s going to start across the OL and at QB. The first taste of who our gunslinger is should be him walking with the other captains to midfield for the coin toss. Oh btw, always go “tails”.

We got so little YAC bc this is the most athletic defense we’ve had under Manny and the trajectory is only going to go up. I don’t expect the numbers to drop off at all and I think we get better in the S&P+.

I brought it up because someone on the board who watched the scrimmages (I can't remember who it was) noted that Martell and Williams were giving the WRs a chance to run after the catch and throwing with better anticipation than Perry (he was also accurate, but throwing to the receivers instead of hitting them in stride). Could just be reading too much into what Manny said.

Definitely going to be a work in progress. New coaching staff, completely new offense. However, the gators are full of holes themselves. They may have the continuity advantage, but if the Canes can just play a clean game (which admittedly can be difficult first ever game in a new system) they should still be able to win.

You might be on to something. You can also do things to help the tackles pass protect like lining a tight end up near them to chip the DE at the beginning of their route.

WARNING.....

Diaz went on to confirm that “this week will determine” the QB battle. Will the decision be announced publicly or will it be kept hidden until the opener?

“That depends, something we have to talk about inside, whether we choose to announce that or not,” Diaz said.

TRANSLATION: the starter may not officially be announced until a few days, or right before, gameday.

Act accordingly.
By “act accordingly,” I’m assuming you mean post incessantly whining about how we haven’t chosen a starter yet and how that spells doom for the season because the team must rally around one QB. Because that’s what’s gonna happen.
