Blades Jr. - stud press corner
Ivey - big productive zone corner
Frierson & Bethel - long, rangy, fast press corner/FS projects
Good - tabula rasa w/elite physical traits
Bandy - high-end slot corner

I don't see the need for panic about the CB position through the end of the 2020 season. We need 1/4 prospects to pan out to have a quality top 3. Yes it sucks losing Campbell to bag games and Bandy will need a good replacement by next year's class at the latest, but there should be enough talent to get by. Locking up Elam would go a long way to solidifying that into reality though, smh.

Now the depth at the DT position on the other hand....

What I'm surprised at the kid doesn't have any film returning kicks? He's not his team's PR or at least KR? With all those wheels?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but add to that the fact that the CB position doesn't have the most daunting or expansive of responsibilities in Manny's defense. As far as a I can tell, the safeties are tasked with more significant responsibility.

I mean, this is the definition of being a star *****. You're whining about kids just based on their ranking. It seems like we could get Davis, flip Couch, or land Sanguinetti.

But the staff just isn't high on them, and if you're paying attention, neither are UF or FSU. It's not doing terribly if the staff just likes Brownlee better, or sees a makes their own evaluation on good.

I guess your point is we should take Davis and Sanguinetti over Good and Brownlee because a bunch of guys working for 247/Rivals have the former ranked higher? And you do realize that it's May and these rankings might change alot. If Good or Brownlee end up 4*, you won't be complaining. Recruiting rankings have fried people's brains

You might very well be correct. I'm just saying, as of right now, based on popular opinion we are not looking so hot.

I don't mind Davis and Couch not being a take. That's fine with me.

What I find retarded is that we were slow playing Kaiir Elam from the Jump. It was obvious he was one of the top CBs in Florida from the jump, which is why I've been saying we need to go after him.

I think we should keep Good, and put all our money in getting Chris Steele who will be deciding in the next couple months. We get Steele, and we're sittin pretty.

BTW yall are tripping, we want AT LEAST 8-9 CBs on this roster in any given year (And like 6 Safeties). Now they may under recruit the position this year simply because they determined the talent isn't very good. But the fact is We should get 3 more CBs. The REASON they don't feel the NEED to get 3, is because none of the guys will leave after the 2019 season - we have no juniors at CB. So their plan might just be to grab two this year and another 2-3 in 2020.

Personally I'd be on board with signing 2 CBs this year, and snagging a grad transfer CB for next year.

I don't think there's any doubt they want Steele, but that is just a tough one to win. The guy I really hope we stay on is Elijah Blades. Kid could come in right away and take over for Mike Jackson

Say we take 5 DBs, I think it's shaping up something like this:

CB: Good
CB: Steele/Elam/Blades/Sanguinetti/Dixon/Porter
NB: Brownlee/Couch/Davis
S: Stevenson/Gant/Battle
S: Smith

And then obviously Richards, if we land him, could end up at DB

Richards could potentially be the next Jalen Ramsey with his size, speed, and athleticism. He'll make more $ on the next level at CB, too. That's a no brainer in my mind.

The staff should take 3 CB's this year. I'm not buying they are okay with 1. They'll be 2 at a minimum. This isn't the NFL where you can hire a FA agent off the street. Guys get hurt or suspended or whatever and you're screwed with only 5-6 on the entire roster.

In 2019, your corner room will be:

Trajan Bandy - Jr. - Dog, stud, call him what you want. But more of a nickel/slot player than outside the numbers DB. Superstar in the making, but again he's not going to be outside covering 6'4 WRs.

DJ Ivey - So. - Promising rookie, but still obviously unproven, as he's never played a snap here yet

Gilbert Frierson - So. - See above, and also may potentially settle at Safety and not be included in this group.

Nigel Bethel - So. or possibly R-Fr. - Project player who will most likely need a redshirt year and then at least another 1-2 years of development before he can be truly counted on to make an impact

Al Blades - So. - Very good chance he's moved to Safety, but even if not, still has a lot to prove as far as being an outside the numbers cover corner.

Damarius Good - Fr. - Has never played DB in his life. Excellent size/speed combo, but certainly can't be counted on for anything in 2019. Most likely will be redshirting.

And that's it. LMAO. An elite slot kid, 3 kids who haven't seen a snap, and 2 complete projects. They need AT LEAST 2 stud corners in 2019. Not projects, not potential kids, not maybes. PRODUCTIVE PLAYERS. Kids like Steele, Dent, Elam, etc. Elite prospects who you at least feel good about having a very high chance of being productive players early in their careers. The fact that these guys were thinking about taking 1 kid and then took a commitment from a kid who has never played a snap at DB in his life is borderline embarrassing. Disagree completely with this approach.

What a ridiculous post. We can't count on Ivey, Frierson, and Blades because they are unproven, yet we can't afford to miss on guys like Steele and Elam?

The line drawing of some people is just sad and pathetic. It really doesn't matter who we get, it will never be good enough. Miss on a 5*, the programs over. Miss on a kid like Khalil Mack, its how did we not offer him.

Damarius Good's tape from his Soph year is also him playing DB, so lol at saying he's never played there before. How the **** did people upvote this ****?

I'm fine with taking an athlete like Good, even if he has little experience at a certain position. The kid can run and it's fine taking chances on kids with elite traits.

That said, our CB room is not packed. We have a project in Bethel and Good is in a similar boat. We have Frierson and Blades, but they are more the hybrid types that some may eventually feel are better suited for FS (although press CB could be it as well). If you take a few projects, you also need to land a few proven, experienced guys to compliment them and allow time to to be groomed. Also, i understand the coaches being picky and looking for certain traits....i would be the same.....but they shouldn't be discounting all kids without them. This is college, not the NFL. You can be an great All-American college corner and be a few inches short....as long as you have the speed and are a willing tackler. Not every recruit has to be physically "ideal".

We need a highly-rated top of the coaches board baller like Stevenson or Steele. For one, we need elite talent to become elite again. But two, we need to be able to keep top talent home and occasionally pluck a national kid (like Brevin Jordan) the way OSU, Bama, USC, FSU and others do. That's when you prove you are back.....and other recruits take notice.

We plucked the DE from Cali (who was the highest rated player in the class) and Jeff Thomas 2 years ago. Then Brevin Jordan and a stud QB this year. So UM has gotten elite talent from out of state. That’s already happened.
This class needs to close much stronger because it’s not looking great considering all the W’s and our in state rivals sucking with coaching changes. There’s no way to sugarcoat it. Hopefully we’ll close like Bama and UGA did last year.

We have, but we have to keep that momentum going, especially since DJ already transferred and we missed on some critical local talent last year. We can't miss again this year locally with the highly ranked guys and strike out nationally with guys like Steele, MJJ, etc that we put time in with and looked to be in decent shape. It would be a bad look.

To add this into perspective.....

This is film from his sophomore year at Colonial High school where he played more on the defensive side. He's clearly physical on the film and if he puts the technique together with his speed and physicality he will be a stud!!

That’s exactly what I’m saying dude.

Lol I’ll be sure to tell the coaches.

This argument also makes no sense as you literally contradict yourself. You discount all the kids we already have by whining about how they have no experience. Then your solution is to grab more FR in 2019 who will HAVE NO EXPERIENCE.

We will return 5 cbs. We don’t need more than 2 to add to this which is what we’ll end up getting. Unloosen those panties ffs.
I think it speaks to how much respect they have for Rumph as an actual coach. Hard to believe that they’ll be looking at taking projects if they didn’t have a ton of faith in him development wise.

Frierson will be a corner and probably starts opposite Jackson by the end of the season.

The staff is typically spot on with their assessments, but the slow playing of Elam is reminiscent of Golden et. al. Hopefully they're able to make up lost ground and they stop slow playing local kids who are objectively studs (see Asante Samuel in '18). I think it's fine to take a risk on a kid like this due to his other attributes, just gotta keep going after your top guys as well
Elam isn't a stud just because certain posters are saying he is and it'sa down year in S. Fla.. slower 40 than Mallory and 29 lbs lighter... I don't know I grade Dbs harsher than most.

Slow rolling is an opinion as well. As for Samuel, begging for a UM offer is again subjective and in the end he stuck with his long time committed to FSU. So much of this is opinion with little to no real basis in fact and I'm not running off a staff writers report. Take it as entertainment and opinion.
I hate this stupid narrative like Dfungo knows Asante personally and was really begging for an offer. Come on now.. Yall cannot be this naive.

It's not a mentally challenging position. Manny doesn't do nearly as much disguising and pattern-matching as Saban, for instance, and guys don't interchange roles very much. But you still have to cover and tackle.
