CIS Staff Predicitons: Miami vs. Jacksonville

It’s officially hoops season in Coral Gables. The Miami Hurricanes open their 2025–26 campaign tomorrow night inside the Watsco Center, welcoming in-state foe Jacksonville for the first game of the new year.

After an offseason of roster turnover and high expectations, all eyes are on how this new-look Canes squad will mesh under Jai Lucas. With returners seniors Tre Donaldson, Malik Renee, and Ernest Udeh Jr. leading the way, plus a handful of key newcomers, Miami looks to make an early statement.

Here’s how the CanesInSight staff sees it shaking out:

It'll be very interesting to see how fast Lucas has us playing. Unless it's a really up and down style, I don't see us scoring over 80, no less those 90+ predictions.

Being the first real game and the first for a new coach and totally rebuilt squad, I wouldn't be surprised if Jax kept this one closer than the 21 point spread.
