Booker T. Washington prospects didn’t treat the Canes well during the 2013 recruiting cycle, but right about now Canes fans are loving the Tornados. Yesterday, cornerback Nigel Bethel II joined teammate Demetrius Jackson in the Miami class. This morning, the biggest fish of them all pulled the trigger, as 4-star DE Chad Thomas committed to his hometown Hurricanes.

“I went through the process looking at all the schools and Miami was just the best one. I had a good time at all those schools and they’re big programs, but everything I need in a school and football program is at Miami My cousin just told me not to rush into schools and to research everything so I felt like I wanted to wait a little bit, but Miami was the choice,” said Thomas.

When I called Thomas for the interview, he was on the phone with his future defensive line coach, Jethro Franklin.

“It went good, coach was happy. He said he dropped in the chair, but I don’t know (laughs). He said it was a great day for him with my commitment. I called Coach Golden at about 10:15 and he slightly went crazy.”

Thomas adds to an already solid defensive line class of Travonte Valentine, Demetrius Jackson, Dalvon Stuckey, and Courtel Jenkins

“I’m just gonna go in with them boys and work and I know were going to be way better than high school. We gotta study film and we can be the dominant D-Line in the ACC.”

The Booker T. standout spoke about what it will mean to him to play in his hometown of Miami.

“I’m going to have pride because it’s my city. I grew up here and was born here so I’m going to be able to do it in front of my family.”

Is the newest commit going to be recruiting prospects to Miami?

“I don’t really try to tell people ‘come here, come here’. I just want them to see how I work and what I’m bring into Miami so then they see they want to be a teammate of mine at Miami and they can jump on the wagon.”

Another factor that played a role in his commitment was The University of Miami’s strong music school.

“It played a big part because I focus on music and that’s the best music program where they can teach me a lot.”

Thomas has a message for Miami fans.

“Get ready for some good Canes football. It’s gonna be like The U in the 80s. We’re coming back.”
