Canes sign RB Javian Mallory despite pushes from Auburn and Alabama

The Hurricanes have officially signed one of the top running backs in South Florida with Javian Mallory.

A six foot, 200 pound product from West Boca, Mallory has elite vision and balance. At the Under Armour Next camp in Miami, Mallory won RB MVP over elite competition such as 5-star Derrek Cooper.

This season Mallory averaged nearly 10 yards per carry, tallying up 1,114 yards and 18 total touchdowns his senior year.

Mallory also offers a receiving threat out of the backfield. At the Under Armour Camp, the separation he got against opposing linebackers was ridiculous. He easily won every rep I watched with smooth cuts at the top of routes.

His film offers a lot to like. His cuts are sharp and decisive, waiting for the perfect gap to open and attacking. Even when the gap isn’t there, Mallory has the strength and power to force his way through the line of scrimmage with both brute force and a stiff arm move in his ****nal.

I’ve said it before. You want to compete for championships n play with the big boys? Fletcher shouldn’t be your starting rb.
Fair, and you're not wrong. Think if Fletcher returns he'd be at best 1B in the backfield. We scored 3 pts on the 2 drives Pringle didn't get a look against Pitt, then beat the brakes off them once he started getting carries.

Even if Fletcher stays? Portal RB only makes sense to me if Fletcher isn't coming back. Pringle looks like the best RB we have had in a while
RB1 made sense last year with Fletcher and Lyle, but Lyle made roster decisions for our staff. if there is a strong RB1 available, make a run at him.

100% agree on last year.

Here's where I'm at:

Fletcher comes back, think we need a portal RB who could replace some of Pringle's explosiveness if he gets nicked up. Similar to what we did picking up Brown who's redundant style wise to Fletcher. Don't think we need a RB1

Fletcher doesn't come back, agree we need a RB1 who has a bigger frame than Pringle.

I know it's a business now, but I'd hate if we tried to nudge Fletcher out, considering all he's been through and given for the university. If he wants to move on and try to make an NFL team, that's a different story, and I'd wish him well.

I agree on the concept of nudging people out. I do not like repeatedly hearing about our staff making roster decisions on fear of people leaving or the staff getting strong armed. Heard it for TVD, Lyle, Damari -- all did very little to earn the ability to not be recruited over. Hopefully the lesson was learned. If there is a top RB1 available and the reason you aren't attacking that spot is because you fear Fletcher, Lyle or Pringle will bolt, that is nuts.

Have to think Lyle is good as gone. Was RB1 and chosen one, got suspended for "pulling a Jo Jo" from my understanding, then had conflict with the staff more than once from my understanding and then clearly got benched.

Fool me once. The adapting to the portal era under Mario continues, let's keep it up wisely.
