I’m already good with Mario because all I wanted was for us to be competent, competitive and respected once again. That’s it. I want more for the younger fans like @cway313 and @Bender too fwiw who rooted for this team when we sucked and stayed fans of the team. That loyalty deserves the reward. I’ve been to 3-4 of our Natty win games, I’m good.
Your sentiment in all honors, but I've told you before, you (and anyone else who's been a fan in the 1980s and 1990s) deserve this as much as anyone else does. I happen to know what it feels like seeing a team that wins go from the top all the way down to the bottom. The pain is different, but feels bad altogether.

We all deserve some happiness through sports, regardless of the age. If this team can make some old ******** cry because of victory, I'll be as happy as I can be.

That's what happens when one of the world's richest men's 5th... 6th? wife is a diehard fan of your school.

That said, his wealth is down significantly, but when you are worth $175B, what's a few million dollars on a recruit.

hes going to be down even more to cover the failed merger

Manny sucked man. Mario is way better at 4 years than Manny was at 3/4 years in or whatever it was. But people have a tendency to try whitewashing the first two seasons and that’s not a fair telling. It was rough. Mario made some horrific calls with horrific game plans, made some bad hires and in my opinion, those bad hires, provided poor evals and development. Lucky for Mario he got several opportunities to hire staff - because his friends are the money - and the last go-round was a grand slam. Look at the coaching performances now.

Once Mario got us to the CFB playoff and won a game, my needs as a fan at this stage of life were met 100% really. Pretty crazy, but I used to watch Boise State beat people and look tough and just wished we could even just get to that level. It was that bad and my standards became that low.
I remember thinking - after the way 2024 ended - that Mario would never get us to within 6 points / 40 yards of a championship. His willingness to embrace change has surprised. But he's also raised the acceptable floor now IMO ... winning the ACC and a playoff birth is now the expectation.

That’s not true. You know more than @Memnon, @htownkidd , @Rellyrell??? You think those guys wanted Mario to fail???

This is the problem that became of this board. People like the preceding three top notch all-time great hall of fame CIS posters couldn’t give an honest assessment without being attacked by bully slurping MarioBros.

I think the answer is in-between.

"7 wins" and "5 wins" is a bad comparison. Manny left us with a team where the upperclassmen didn't have to practice and several of the players lived in Broward.

And while I agree with you on bad hires on Day 1, I think every one knew who the best players were, we just couldn't land them all. At that particular time. We needed some guys like Bain to have faith, and some good Portal guys to bridge us.

I have criticized some of the hires and some of the playcalls (GaTech no-knee) since the moment they happened. But I also had faith that Mario knew how to get there. That is not slurping, it's just an observation on the multi-year builds at FIU and Oregon.

Certain types of criticism can go too far. And blind optimism can go too far.

There were some of those. There were some who were miserable no matter what and I myself questioned why they’re even here. Then there were some who would get under the collective skin of the faithful like @cway313 and @Angry Ibis because of their sarcasm so I get the attacks they got, however, both of those guys are real fans. You notice those two in recruiting threads upvoting or welcoming recruits we land all the time. Those guys are fans.

But I get the snipes they got for being sarcastic and yes, I thought their sarcasm was funny be it was based in truth. Then others just gave opinions that were right but not happy happy joy joy and they got run off to DMs.
The sarcasm and snipes are warranted all around. It is the way of the board. As @bobbydigius outlines, Mario adapted -- which was really a source of the 4 year battle up to and through the SMU disaster. I told you so's flowed on both sides. The follow up to the SMU loss included the biggest bro of all posting "**** Mario" because of the approach to that game.

The only people moping right now are the posters asking where are the mopes in recruiting threads moping about mopes not moping about good news... and the entire baseball board other than JD Artemarrero ... because the baseball program is a disaster.

Fall Camp starts. We are riding high in football all around. Score early. Score often. Win. Repeat.

@Angry Ibis is alright with me , won’t speak on the other dude

How dare you sir?!?! There is no in-between on CIS on a summer Friday.

There are wins ahead!!!

(unless we beat ourselves) :devilish:

Decisions aren't made in a vacuum. There was only so much time to recruit guys to fill the roster and same with hiring assistant coaches. That's why you generally can't judge a coach on a year or two in the program. In a few years he has adapted beautifully.

That's actually a pretty fair take, save the comment about one of the people you referred to as a fan because I don' think that person is actually a fan. I'm not even sure she is a person, but since this board is essentially anonymous, I'll never know for sure.
