No such thing as locks in recruiting.
There’s a couple coaches on the phone with the richest Miami hater in their donor class. “Jimmy, looking forward to playing Augusta in a few weeks. Sorry to bother, but I know you’d kill me if I didn’t call you about this. Do you want to REALLY stick it to Miami…”

Bruh....as recently as 2019, this is a FULL DB class we signed:

Keontra Smith
Christian Williams
Te'Cory Couch

That was the whole class. Corner, nickel, safety, we signed three (3) kids.

A 5'10 kid we moved to linebacker, a kid who played sparingly for 1 year and wound up at a G6 school, and Te'Cory Couch was decent, but undrafted and has bounced around some camps but never been on an active roster in the NFL.

That was an ENTIRE DB CLASS.

2020 may have been even worse.

We signed Tae Williams (DNP -- Murder), Marcus Clarke (what?), Isaiah Dunson (who?), Jalen Harrell (when?), Brian Balom (why?), Keshawn Washington (how?).

It's almost impossible to sign 6 kids and not a single one ever made a meaningful play for you. Maybe I'm missing something. I know Tae had one pick, I think it was against a **** team in a blowout, other than that, did any of those 6 kids literally make a single play in a meaningful game? One play?
That’s why the people shttng on Mario his first 2 years saying he has the same record as Manny was the funniest sht ever. People were either rooting against him or didn’t know ball . Period

I can't believe how trash that 2019 class was the best DB was a 150lb cb while the other 2 never did anything at DB just gross

Yeah, mongo won 5 games in year 1 after Manny left with 7 wins. He mis-hired staff twice and had to rehire coordinators and position coaches multiple times in the first couple years. He got off to a poor start. Even the evals weren’t close to what they’ve become over the past couple years and the last two years have been stellar.

Improved coaching by all including Mario, great evals and great development. However, what we were at Gattis, Steele and that Louisiana dude at DC.

Dawson and Heatherman plus beard Lewis, Harris - that’s the diff.

With EVERY mistake Mario made he was still 10 times the coach Manny will EVER be. You dont remember that we had 3 centers and 2 guards starting his first year at OL because Mannys recruiting sucked!

Manny sucked man. Mario is way better at 4 years than Manny was at 3/4 years in or whatever it was. But people have a tendency to try whitewashing the first two seasons and that’s not a fair telling. It was rough. Mario made some horrific calls with horrific game plans, made some bad hires and in my opinion, those bad hires, provided poor evals and development. Lucky for Mario he got several opportunities to hire staff - because his friends are the money - and the last go-round was a grand slam. Look at the coaching performances now.

I’m already good with Mario because all I wanted was for us to be competent, competitive and respected once again. That’s it. I want more for the younger fans like @cway313 and @Bender too fwiw who rooted for this team when we sucked and stayed fans of the team. That loyalty deserves the reward. I’ve been to 3-4 of our Natty win games, I’m good.

Once Mario got us to the CFB playoff and won a game, my needs as a fan at this stage of life were met 100% really. Pretty crazy, but I used to watch Boise State beat people and look tough and just wished we could even just get to that level. It was that bad and my standards became that low.

Can’t undersell how long it took to get both LOS up to par too. Our recruiting in both trenches was *** for two decades. There was no scenario that was gonna flip overnight.

It’s not surprising at all once the OL hit, the offense improved. As great as Cam was if the OL was a Manny OL it wouldn’t have been nearly as good.

And we all saw what happened once the DL hit last year.

Mario nailing nearly every hire the last two cycles helped, but once his guys started dominating the trenches we became a real team again.

All the things you said were true but Manny left the talent level & overall culture in a terrible place when he got booted for Mario
