Bio Blast: Shelton Henderson reopens recruitment

Shelton Henderson is rated as the No. 1 player in Texas. He was initially committed and signed with the Duke Blue Devils. However, after Jai Lucas went to Miami, Shelton then decommitted from the University of Duke and now looking for a new home.

The Texas star announced he had requested and was granted a release from his National Letter of Intent, reopening his recruitment after signing in November.

Great connections with the Lucas family

Jai Lucas and Shelton Henderson have a strong connection with each other. Lucas was Henderson's primary recruiter after high school and played alongside him on JL3 in the AAU circuit, which is the team associated with Lucas's family.

Lucas departed the Duke program, and shortly after, five-star prospect Shelton Henderson followed, showing that Shelton was drawn to Duke not just for the program itself, but also for the opportunity to be coached by Jai Lucas.

Lucas and Henderson is from Texas and even attended the same high school.

Top-20 recruit

Shelton is a highly regarded five-star prospect in the class of 2025. As a senior, he averaged 22.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, and four assists per game.



Henderson has received scholarship offers from Miami, Duke, Texas, Texas Tech, Louisville, DePaul, Houston, LSU, TCU, Ole Miss plus many more schools.

Named Guy V. Lewis Award winner

After leading Bellaire Academy to the 6A Houston State Finals only to fall short against Duncanville, Henderson was honored with the Guy V. Lewis Award, recognizing him as the Player of the Year in the Houston area.



In 2024, Chris McDermott from Booker T. Washington High School, who averaged an impressive 20.3 points, 18.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game, received the Guy V. Lewis Award and is now playing at Texas A&M.
